Hi Stumptown Footy friends! Site manager Sam here with an update. It’s been a wild five months since STF moved to its new home on Substack, and the team here is still getting fully familiar with the platform and all of the fun little pros and cons of it (thanks for going to war with Substack literally the month we joined, Elon!).
Anyway, in a long overdue move we are at last turning on our paid subscription tiers. Everyone who writes and does work here at STF does so out of pure love for all things Thorns & Timbers and Portland soccer, and as site manager I want our contributors receive some sort of compensation for the work they do. And so we are humbly asking you all as readers to help make that possible by signing up for a paid subscription.
Here’s the details on subscriptions:
Paid subscription tiers are $5 a month or $50 a year. You can also subscribe as a founding member for $80 a year.
A percentage of all payments will be set aside for tax purposes, and everything outside of that will be distributed to the team directly.
Paid subscribers will get access to analysis pieces (like Sam’s Tree Rings/takeaways pieces), other personal player pieces (like some cool new Thorns stuff Phuoc is working on), future planned chats/subscriber only discussions with the STF team, and the ability so submit questions for future mailbag posts.
Founding members will receive all of the above, our undying love and appreciation, and sneak peeks of potential new future content that the team is workshopping for a wider audience.
The usual match previews, match recaps, and match threads will remain available to everyone and won’t be paywalled.
The above is of course not exhaustive, and there will be a whole lot more content coming to paid subscribers in the future!
When SB Nation cut its support for Stumptown earlier this year, none of us knew for sure how it was going to continue. Even when we settled into Substack, we weren’t sure how much the community would come with us and how it would look.
We are all so incredibly thankful that y’all did indeed come along with us, and continue to make STF the strong soccer community that it is. We’re still growing, and still strive to be bigger and better than we were before. This is just the next step in what hopefully be many more great strides in the future.
