I'm sure we all are pulling for this guy to have a great career. I always wanted to see more of him and more from him because I believed he has the potential.
I liked him. He never really got a good run out, but he did produce when given an opportunity. I thought he was a good dribbler and might have worked better on a wing. I'm guessing he doesn't fit the profile Phil is looking for as a center forward; I wish him well!
So no new DP CM as rumored I guess. Bummer. But gotta get it right. And lets you taper down the legend a little more deliberately.
No defenders either. Though in-league makes a lot of sense for a quick stretch run integration. Trade deadline is probably later.
I wasn’t high on Nathan at all. But he was a poor man’s Urruti with that pest energy which is useful at end of games. Asprilla’s size and speed and athleticism were great for closing too. Hopefully Toye can bring some of these qualities to the end of games.
I'm not sure what you mean by "trade deadline" in that sentence? The transfer window closed today (8/15) and won't reopen again until after the season is over, so in that sense, the "trade deadline" is past and the Timbers are done dealing until the off season.
At this point, until the off season, the only type of player the Timbers can acquire is one who is not currently under contract with another club. And I hope that is not the talent level of player the Timbers are looking at.
Nathan Fogaca was one of those dudes who will be great in a game of Let's Remember Some Guys in a decade or so, but that's about it, really. I hope he catches on somewhere, I don't wish him ill, but of all the Timbers players I've seen, he was definitely one of them.
Considering that the window closes tomorrow, almost certainly yes. Unless Ned has some sort of magic ability to hide amazing news from literally everybody.
I guess we'll have to wait for this winter for reinforcements and, well, there's not that much money coming off the books after the season - the only expiring contracts I can see are Marvin Loria's and Diego Chara's, and let's be real, neither of those two are going anywhere (nor should they).
So any business this winter will probably be through trades or a few more clearouts, since most of the dead salary weight is gone at this point.
I think Hunter Sulte’s contract is up? He has an option year though. The main advantage to moving him would be bringing someone else up from T2, though we already have spots available and existing plans for T2 1-3 players.
I wasn't counting Mabs or Fogaca because those contracts are already gone, functionally, but yeah. The overall point is that Ned won't have a big pile of unallocated cash to play with like he did last winter, so this winter will be a bigger test of his GM abilities I think. He's done reasonably well so far, but we'll see how he does at making deals as opposed to making straight-up buys.
So Ned pretty much confirmed today the Timbers are going the unambitious cheap route in 2025.
In his presser, he referenced an additional U22 slot and "having an additional $2 million plus in general allocation money", which is one of the parameters of the U22 Player Initiative model, one of the two paths teams must choose from for roster construction starting next season (https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/mls-announces-significant-roster-rule-changes).
He also made noises about "bigger acquisitions", but the amount of roster juggling and buydowns that will take definitely puts a ceiling on the word "bigger", I would think.

Ok thanks. I know that interleague trades don’t have all the same parameters as transfer windows, or at least haven't always.

So is that it for the summer transfers?

Oh, and Toye is only through this season with an option for next.
Mabiala $350k, Loria $275k, and Fogaca $90k.
