With less than 24 hours to go in the summer transfer window, the Portland Timbers and Nathan Fogaca mutually agreed to part ways after 27 months of service. Nathan made 43 appearances for the Timbers, 10 of which were starts, providing four goals and two assists in 1,133 minutes.
With Felipe Mora back to full health, the acquisition of Mason Toye this window, and Tega Ikoba’s strong run of form for T2 in recent weeks, it’s an understandable move for both parties. Nathan gets an opportunity to find playing time at a new club, and the Timbers clear an international slot and salary off of their books.
Ned Grabavoy confirmed that sentiment in the club’s press release: “We want to thank Nathan for his contributions during his time with the Portland Timbers. He has expressed his desire to look at other opportunities that might afford him the playing time he is seeking, and this decision allows him the ability to do so. The Portland Timbers would like to wish Nathan all the best in his career going forward.”
Nathan appeared in 16 games for the Timbers this season, but his volume of minutes dropped significantly under Phil Neville. His lone MLS goal in 2024 came in the Timbers’ 2-2 home draw against the Houston Dynamo on June 1 — but I’ll never forget the Brazilian striker turning Yeimar and Jackson Ragen into pumpkins in last year’s 4-1 home rout of the Seattle Sounders.
He wasn’t the most prolific scorer for the Timbers, but the energy and commitment Nathan showed whenever he stepped onto the pitch was something to be admired. We at Stumptown Footy are rooting for him to succeed wherever his career takes him next.
I'm sure we all are pulling for this guy to have a great career. I always wanted to see more of him and more from him because I believed he has the potential.
So no new DP CM as rumored I guess. Bummer. But gotta get it right. And lets you taper down the legend a little more deliberately.
No defenders either. Though in-league makes a lot of sense for a quick stretch run integration. Trade deadline is probably later.
I wasn’t high on Nathan at all. But he was a poor man’s Urruti with that pest energy which is useful at end of games. Asprilla’s size and speed and athleticism were great for closing too. Hopefully Toye can bring some of these qualities to the end of games.
