Man do I feel good about our keeper situation if that's our backup. What a change in one offseason.

Colorado really went after us in the 2nd half, but we weathered it ok.

Still having stuff to work on after a win isn't a bad thing. We have a DP coming. Pretty happy so far.

A very good performance in goal. He read the game well and stopped a couple of attacks and made one or two saves by moving out from the goal line. Also played well on the goal line. Any idea what they’re going to do with Ivacic? I assume they’ll move him to another team.

I'm here to say, I might have been wrong about Phill. It is Colorado but damn we were rocking. Didn't like us taking our foot off the peddle in the second half. Pantemis was great! Antony was mvp. And as of right now, Portland sit at #1 in the league on GD. Let's go.

The quest for our 1st hatty continues...

Congrats to Anthony on a great shift.

Surprised Aspreesha is still in there instead.

Also surprised Paredes in for so long on an early yellow.

Is there any use in complaining about the ref. Inconsistent and zero control.

Given the acrimony between the two sides, who knows how long the scabs will be reffing. At least they haven't made a wrong decision with Var yet. At least from what I can tell watching earlier today. But the added time for several matches...yikes!

This ref was actually better than the refs I saw in Miami vs. Salt Lake and LAFC vs. Seattle.

Some things never change...good ol' set piece defense. Still more work to do.

Helps when you take out the keeper.

I won't be buying a kit as long as this is the sponsor.

Horrific experience with them and thankfully I held firm and didn't get ripped off. They showed up at my front door one night about 3 years ago, said they were "running a special" since they would be doing a new roof for the neighbors and everyone would get 10% off since they could do multiple adjacent roofs and lower costs. Knowing my roof was 22 years old and showing some wear and needed to be done in the next year or so, I said sure - give me a quote. They proceeded to high pressure sell me with me repeatedly saying "just put it in writing and let me compare". Would not leave and attempted to wear me down. Knocked on the door multiple times with "more information". It was f'ing ridiculous. After 2 hours they gave me a dollar figure that seemed very high to me, but their sales pitch was that they started at 250% of what anyone else would do it for, then same down to 200%, 150% and pretended that was an "amazing deal". I told them I was done, if they kept knocking I would call the police.

By then they had my phone number (because they originally said they would just walk around and then text me the quote later) and called me twice a day for 6 months even after being told no, that I had gone with a different company for the roof (who did the exact same product for about 20% of their original price offered).

Really weird tactics if your whole goal is good branding and sales. As bad as the Timbers have been in certain business aspects, they pressure me about 1% as much as this.

For those reasons, I will never by a kit with this sponsor on it. I liked Alaska Airlines - like all airlines have their problems which sometimes are not great ... but they never stood on my porch for 2 hours trying to harass me into buying plane tickets at massively inflated prices or called me twice a day for 6 months after being told no multiple times.

MP should have done his homework, but they clearly just took money from the highest bidder.

we're not going to have to put up with non-soccer diatribes all year, are we?

Expand full comment

Turns out, no.

Expand full comment

Just feels wrong though to not have Alaska Air on the shirt anymore. But MP is to blame for that.

It sucks. Sponsors change, it happens. But we had a decent one and a nice long history. Most of all though, why and how it changed really, really sucks.

At least soccer is back. And in great fashion!

Anybody know where Evander is?

Stefan is realizing that ain’t Stones & Diaz in front of him. Or even Akanji or Ake.

Rough, man. Rough.

He's also realizing that yes - he agreed to play for Chris Armas.

Well this is going pretty well.

When was the last time we were 4-0 up at the half? Anybody know? Not that I can recall.

Expand full comment

The only other time was Aug. 28, 2016, against the Fish. Up 4-0 at halftime, won 4-2. Also heard that was the only other time the Timbers scored 4 first-half goals.

It's nice to see possession. I can't remember the last time the Timbers were anything other than pure counter-attack. It doesn't hurt that they're playing a terrible team but it's still refreshing to see.

Who's this Pantera dude in goal? He's pretty good.

Looks confident doesn't he?

Robin Fraser was fired for this?! It wasn't like he was the second coming of Pep. But I guess Armas has a voodoo doll in order to keep getting hired with his track record.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Call me when you can score 7-8 goals in a half. Dubious start to the new era.

Time to sub Antony before the hat trick

Expand full comment

C'mon if he gests subbed off without playing a full 90, then we can't bemoan the hatty-less streak. Neville needs to give him a chance to do the deed...or not.

True story: We moved to OR in spring 2013. We were in a new house and had little furniture to our name (we'd moved from FL and knew our lives here would be a lot different), so we went shopping at IKEA by PDX. We were down by the kitchenwares and our daughter, 8, comes running up to us and says "THAT'S DIEGO CHARA!" We had no clue who he was, but she did. She basically stalks him and finally conjures up the courage to ask for a picture. We got one...but there were 3 in the photo. The other dude? Dairon Asprilla, maybe 1 week into his tenure with the Timbers. He wasn't even on the website yet, so we didn't know who he was until we watched a few games and he showed up as a sub. Anyway, we have the photo of the three of them, arms around each other in IKEA's kitchenwares area :)

Our daughter just graduated from college last year and Asprilla & Chara signed the picture for her as a grad gift. Pretty awesome. To this day, I love Asprilla. He's my favorite.

Minor correction: Our daughter is pretty cool but she is not a child prodigy that graduated high school at 14 :). She graduated from HIGH SCHOOL last year, not college.

IKEA must be the Timbers' go-to place. I ran into Danny Mwanga (remember him?) there once.

That's such a sweet story! Though if your daughter was eight 11 years ago and she graduated college last year... Dang! That's a precious kiddo! I hope her enthusiasm and love for the Timbers has continued.

Oh, sorry. She graduated from HS last year and is a freshman in college now :)
