I love the fact that I own a growler that says FIRST IN CASCADIA on it, and no matter what else happens, no one can take that away from us. Does that matter? No, but it's still fun. I grew up in Seattle before moving here, and no matter how much more success they have had than the Timbers, it still, to this day, rankles all my Sounder fan friends that the Timbers got there first.
our neighborhood bar will do it if you ask, but they don't really advertise it as a thing they do - I think they do it as a favor for regulars, mostly. And we don't do it that often, because a growler is actually a very inefficient way to store beer unless you're drinking it more or less right away, in which case why not just stay at the bar?
Someone told me not that long ago that places lost a ton of beer topping off growlers because to do it quickly, you end up throwing out all the "foam" and that made the growler model a loser as beer keg prices went up. No idea if that is true.
The Red Card Wedding, Dempsey never playing in USOC again because of it, epic jello-shot-cookies-jungle-juice bus rides, Fishlock own goal, Nadia dagger, a core element of our culture. I love to hate them.
I actually don't hate Seattle. Gosh knows I'm supposed to - I'm frequently reminded that they're the enemy.... but I don't. It's a fun derby and I'm glad the teams are currently doing equally terribly, with an even record between them, and it is going to be epic because of it. But my feelings about the team certainly don't merit my claiming to "hate" it or anyone associated with it. Just felt like I had to put it out there.
Ditto. lord knows there's enough hate going around for real. Want "my team" to win, sure, but I just like to be entertained by the skill and sportsmanship of these great athletes.
Something I like about going to Thorns games is the lack of shade thrown on the athletes and opposing fans - you don't get the obscenity screaming, middle fingers, lack of sympathy for injured athletes (as in the "no pity" thing) and so on. I personally prefer positivity, but like dude says, people are entitled to their opinions. I just hope it doesn't move beyond banter. Sports rivalries can get ugly.
Definitely not saying either way is right or wrong! Positivity is good! I personally just love the bitter nature of a historic rivalry like this one, and the things you mention bring that juice for me!
Many people are saying to like this post and tell your friends to sub to the stack
I felt all your hatred in this piece. HOLY MOLY.

I have that same growler! It's used sparingly so it can last a lifetime
Can you even get growler fills anymore? It seems like that part of the industry completely vanished.

Love this energy!
you misspelled "shittle".

for what it's worth, after today I'm starting to feel a little more like you do LOL
Share the sentiment but there’s still a few NWSL players who elicit the middle finger on occasion.
