Congrats!

Side note: it's wild that Diego Chará has only been an All-Star once.

D-mids are invisible - they don't get goals or assists, they don't make last-ditch saves, and you only notice them when something goes wrong - so they tend not to get fan votes. Plus some dude up in Seattle got more press, and thus more votes.

Chará did really well in his one All-Star appearance, stopping attacks left and right. I remember one commentator saying something like "Chará is such a bulldog, isn't he?" But it wasn't enough to get invited back.

It was very cool to see how he took the news, and amongst the team and fellow past All Stars, and his words were spot on. His highlight reel alone shows his quality. Add to that this team's rise and success, and it's a deserved honor.

Fantastic news and very well deserved. He's having an MVP-level season and I'm glad the league is taking notice, even if no fan base outside of Portland is.

In my brain - the coach's selection is based on ability and merit, not popularity! As RCTEyeDee said, "glad the league is taking notice..." Another well deserved feather in Evander's cap!

Yeah, I'm always of two minds about ASG's. It's a cool honor for the players, but I always want the game to be played at half speed and with no tackles, so that nobody gets hurt.

I generally don’t want our players to go, but Evander expressed his desire multiple times to want to be there and looked so happy when he found out in the video the club put out. Especially this year when he gets to meet and play with Messi. I’m thrilled he was chosen

Love to see it. I hope next year we have both Evander and Rodriguez

Congrats to him! Well deserved, especially because his selection was by the coach and therefore based more on performance than popularity.
