Evander Named 2024 MLS All-Star
For the first time since 2019, the Portland Timbers have an MLS All-Star. Evander becomes the ninth player in club history to achieve the honor.
For the first time since 2019 and Diego Chara, the Portland Timbers will have an MLS All-Star: Evander.
Major League Soccer announced that Portland Timbers star Evander has been named a coach’s selection by Columbus Crew (and MLS All-Star team) coach Wilfried Nancy to the 30-man roster for the 2024 MLS All-Star Game.
Evander is the ninth Portland Timber in franchise history to be named an MLS All-Star, following Chara (2019), Diego Valeri (2018, 2017, 2016, 2014, 2013), Darlington Nagbe (2016), Liam Ridgewell (2016, 2014), Will Johnson (2014, 2013), Donovan Ricketts (2013), Rodney Wallace (2013), and Jack Jewsbury (2011).
Phil Neville notified Evander and the rest of the team during the Green is Gold Charity Match alongside former MLS All-Stars Jack Jewsbury, Liam Ridgewell, and Diego Valeri.
“I want to thank everybody. It’s not only me, it’s the group. If we weren’t in the position we are right now, I wouldn’t make the All-Stars. Thanks to all of you” said Evander.
Evander has been on another level this year. Evander leads the Timbers with nine goals and 11 assists (third most in MLS). His 20 goal contributions also rank as fifth most in MLS and second most among all midfielders. He has tallied a goal and assist in the same match seven times this season, setting a new club single-season record.
The MLS All-Stars will take on the best players of LIGA MX on Wednesday, July 24 at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio.
Congrats!
Side note: it's wild that Diego Chará has only been an All-Star once.
It was very cool to see how he took the news, and amongst the team and fellow past All Stars, and his words were spot on. His highlight reel alone shows his quality. Add to that this team's rise and success, and it's a deserved honor.
