Wow, that could have been a much different result. We got outplayed much of the game and OCSC threatened our goal way more than we did. Typical Timbers don’t create many good opportunities.
Not sure what all the doom and gloom is about, that was a pretty good match all things considered. No we didn’t play well but can you expect us to play well with that lineup? Second stringers got time and we saw good things from Caliskan, Clegg, and Sulte (not a fan of Griffith though). We bent a bit but didn’t break. Scored some scrappy goals. If we play our starters we beat them handily, more so than we did today
Now granted I couldn’t pay attention to a good bit of the match but I was able to catch the second half and half of the first (the first 23ish minutes)
Seattle just barely survive San Diego 5-4 through a last minute penalty in extra time (125 minutes) at home. Atlanta and San Jose both lost, and Atlanta was at home. Were we expecting better from this game? This is about as good as I could imagine for the lineup we rolled out. Yeah, it was pretty even on the field. That about matches up with the talent level of the two teams
Seattle is going to do well in the league this season z. They can afford to blow off the Cup. Unless our form takes a huge turn we can’t. The Cup - at this point - is our hope for some glory…yet we looked pedestrian against a poor USL team.
To be glad we didn’t shit the bed like San Hoser and Miami is setting the bar entirely too low for my liking.
Columbus needed an 83rd minute goal to win 1-0 at home over Indy 11, who are in a worse position than Orange County. Columbus played some second stringers and first stringers but didn’t call up three second team players, and they played poorly despite being one of the better teams in the league. This is what happens in early rounds of the US open cup before we really start to take it seriously. How we play this game isn’t all too important given the players. Besides Paredes, we didn’t play a single starter from the start. And Paredes isn’t (usually) a starter when Eryk is healthy. What we can hope for is for some good individual performances from players who normally don’t get playing time, which we got, and a win, which we also got
Not trying to say that we played well, I’m just saying it doesn’t matter *too* much. What more were you expecting from that lineup?
That they would look more composed and technically better than a 1-3-3 USL side? I don’t think that’s a huge ask, even for a pickup MLS side. I sure didn’t expect to see them pretty much even up for most of the match. Like I said; not taking a dive like SJ or Atlanta is a lower bar than I am okay with. Given how this team has done in the league this should have been an opportunity to get a comfortable win and start the Cup run off strong. Got the win, so good. But comfortable and strong? Umm…
Our defense was comprised of a 21 year old third string keeper, two backup outside backs who aren’t very good in MLS, Mabiala after playing 90 minutes a few days ago (how much slower can he get), and a T2 draft pick center back making his debut who probably barely trains with the first team. Our midfield had a T2 draft pick, a player making his first start coming back from injury a few weeks ago, and an aging injury-plagued legend starting and getting his first minutes since September. Our wingers were a depth piece and a player playing his first minutes in about a month after being injured. Our striker was a 19 year old kid who has started one game for us and hasn’t had many minutes.
This is not a team that is ever going to play cohesively. The OC squad have at least played together a bunch, they have chemistry. We got the win and got some nice performances by some players that need it. That’s all we need. I’m good with performing better than four MLS teams that are much better than us
I dropped my season ticket this season, and since I did I don’t get the Apple+ stream, either. So this was my first actual Timbers sighting this season. And…wow.
I was there for 2012. I was there for some of the bad USL seasons in the Oughts. But this?
We advance so big sigh of relief that we avoid the ultimate humiliation. But just embarassing really from Gio. I want to give the MOTM to Sulte. He seems to be coming along nicely. That's about the only positive (besides the win) I can take away from this match.
Do you blame him? Our “major league” team looks barely better than the fourth-from-worst-team in the USL West! If I was a Sacramento fan I’d be furious…
Well, he should know that mls teams put out crappy lineups for usoc every season. As for Sacramento, ask Nagle how come Sac didn't even have a stream for the Roots match. I think Bleacher Report picked it up so it ends up well. But Sac needs a sugar daddy right now. At least Nagle seems to care about his team, unllike our currently checked out owner.
This match is good for him. He needs to get used to being hung out to dry but the back line. Need to knows that his first league start years ago was only the norm.
Timbers u23? Isn't that just a licensing/marketing thing? Like we don't own the team? Maybe we should just send him out on loan to get PT. Don't think Next Pro is going to help him much level up, if any.
Transfer window closed and I guess that rumor of the Slovakian cb was false. So yeah, we can look forward to Mabs playing like a USL rookie all season long.
I guess there is always hope. Dairon certainly bloomed late. And we sent him back to Columbia on loan in what seemed like an attempt to offload him. That said, I'm not sure Bonilla is capable of that kind of growth.
Looks like going in 1-0. Either the level of play in USL has improved immensely since the pre-2011 USL or this edition of PTFC is tactically inept in ways that Cal FC never imagined…
Going to be 1-0 because USL has improved AND because we're inept on and off the pitch. After Cal FC, I just wanted us to not embarass ourselves but MP, GW, Golub, etc. said "hold my beer".
Gio be damned. We’re a tier higher; we should be better man-for-man.
A friend described this season’s Timbers to me as “a team built by USL guys” and tonight that’s how we look. It’s depressing because the USL guys - Ned, Merritt, Gio - are still running the team.
Well, Ned played in this league. Thing is, a guy who played with the likes of Javier Morales, Beckerman, etc and Donovan (Galaxy?) should appreciate technical ability and talent rather than just grit and work rate. But NG was always the waterboy to those guys so I guessed he really appreciates players like him. But I mostly blame GW. Now that's a USL guy.
Given our performance in the league I think Gio’s a fool if he throws the Cup away. It’s our only hope of silverware if we don’t look better than this.
If we're going to half ass it out there, why not throw any academy kids we do have that are playing with T2? I know we have like one of them, at least. Honestly, it is so embarassing to see Gio just keep repeating the same old mistakes over and over again. Just have Llamosa coach this match. At least we had some excitement last week!
I have to cook soon - it's about 5 here in Honolulu so close to dinner time. Given that we've not missed much I might skip out early. I only wish I could drink but currently recovering from cataract surgery so laying off alcohol. You may need to drink for both of us.
Stream keeps dying on me. What I have seen looks like two semi-pro teams playing bad soccer. OC has had a couple good chances. Rasmussen looks like a mid level USL defender which is expected
I cant get CBS Sports Golazo to work. I can see recorded stuff and I see the Timbers OCSC match and it says now playing but when I click it I get nothing.
What browser are you using? I'm on Firefox and if you are usually in private browsing mode/Icognito (Chrome), then turn it off. Also put your tracking mode to standard.
The Wi-Fi was too slow for it to work, but it started working for me once I switched to a hotspot with my phone. Also try opening the game in a new tab.

Then you know nothing, Jon Snow. You missed the part where our club -even tho it was a pickup team - played about as well as a bad USL side.
Seattle just barely survive San Diego 5-4 through a last minute penalty in extra time (125 minutes) at home. Atlanta and San Jose both lost, and Atlanta was at home. To be glad we didn’t shit the bed like San Hoser and Miami is setting the bar entirely too low for my liking.
Oh and San Jose are an actual good team this year, as are Atlanta
Columbus needed an 83rd minute goal to win 1-0 at home over Indy 11, who are in a worse position than Orange County. Oh and Blanco’s back (and started!!) and he looked bright! Really looking forward to seeing more from him
I dropped my season ticket this season, and since I did I don’t get the Apple+ stream, either. So this was my first actual Timbers sighting this season. And…wow.
I was there for 2012. I was there for some of the bad USL seasons in the Oughts. But this?
Holy shit.
We advance so big sigh of relief that we avoid the ultimate humiliation. But just embarassing really from Gio. I want to give the MOTM to Sulte. He seems to be coming along nicely. That's about the only positive (besides the win) I can take away from this match.
Glad that was a cheap ticket.
Jaro saves our blutt just in time. What a weird buildup. But at least we have a cushion.
Their keeper is knocked off a huge high ball that Niezgoda taps in, 3-1 and that’s all folks.
We play like this in the next round and we’re toast.
It's good to know our DP can only score when we are up 2+ goals.
That’s Nathan’s goal, but happy that Jaro was there to tuck it away!
Well well well, the Dr is back
A tantalizing goal!
OC equalizes in the 89th! But someone is offside, so it’s called back. Whew!
Good thing if was offside cause nobody in green jumped or did anything to stop that ball!
Nathan looks really in his element against these guys
Oh, tantalizing balls...
Yeah, good to know we play hero ball against USL squads.
Fish scored in 101st minute. Now 4-3.
Is this over yet?
Golly
So the Fish are now in extra time (two 15 min periods) with the Loyal. And if we don't get our act together, we'll be joining them.
This announcer is doing his best to promote pro/rel.
Do you blame him? Our “major league” team looks barely better than the fourth-from-worst-team in the USL West! If I was a Sacramento fan I’d be furious…

Thing is that even our reserves should comfortably outplay a poor USL side.
Fogaca on for Ikoba at 73’
Do we have a 2 RB system?
Do we have a system?
Has something to do with "tryin' stuff"
“Throw shit against the wall and…”
Pray for a bike
Aka Hero Ball. Week in and week out.
Sulte has to come up huge in the 68th minute as their guy blasts thru the backline!
This match is good for him. He needs to get used to being hung out to dry but the back line. Need to knows that his first league start years ago was only the norm.
Hey, it's 3-3 up north at their sacred pitch!!
So like Gio going to bunker for like 25 minutes?
I’ve never been able to figure his tactics. This looks too grabass to be parking the bus, but it’s not impossible to rule out incompetence, either.
To put this in perspective; OCFC is 9th of 12 in the USL West this season, 1-3-3, 6pts, GD -3
Rasmussen is getting burned by USL guys. Ouch.
I really feel like he should be on T3
Timbers u23? Isn't that just a licensing/marketing thing? Like we don't own the team? Maybe we should just send him out on loan to get PT. Don't think Next Pro is going to help him much level up, if any.
It's a philosophical team
Wow.
OC pulls one back in the 53rd. Rasmussen beat to the byline, good finish at a tight angle.
Mabs looked like.a USL rookie on that play too. Getting cought out and falling over.
Transfer window closed and I guess that rumor of the Slovakian cb was false. So yeah, we can look forward to Mabs playing like a USL rookie all season long.
This stream tho
Dime by Paredes and Clegg finishes it off. I'll take any effort from any guy to win this match. Starter, depth piece, or pure scrub.
Yep, Griffiths came on for him. My bad.
Bonilla served that ball in, Paredes came off at half
He grew before our eyes
T2 guy Clegg knocks in a free header in the 48th minute, 2-nil
Nice service from Paredes.
Bonilla; my bad.
Hey we got a debut goal!
Welcome to the team!
Santi is on (for Loria, I think)
Looks like Griffith is on for Paredes as well
I wish Bonilla would grow. He has a lot of technical ability but just can't figure out how to use it
I guess there is always hope. Dairon certainly bloomed late. And we sent him back to Columbia on loan in what seemed like an attempt to offload him. That said, I'm not sure Bonilla is capable of that kind of growth.
Frankly, I didn’t see anyone in green out there tonight who looked technically head-and shoulders above his opponent.
Was actually interested in seeing Caliskan tonight. I just worry that with our coaching staff at T2 and Gio's system, we are going to ruin him.
Shots 7-1 PTFC. SOG 1-1. Possession 52% OC. And we’re outfouling them 7-2 so yay, us.
The latter
Knew I should have used the sarc font…
That’s a relief! Loria hits one thru traffic from the arc and it unsights their keeper, 1-nil.
I honestly don't get what the hell the sub was for. But I guess we know Blanco is healthy?!
Limiting his minutes coming off rehab is my guess.
It's a throw away game for Gio. Getting Blanco some recovery minutes was important
Never underestimate Gio''s ability to confound us.
Gio be damned. We’re a tier higher; we should be better man-for-man.
A friend described this season’s Timbers to me as “a team built by USL guys” and tonight that’s how we look. It’s depressing because the USL guys - Ned, Merritt, Gio - are still running the team.

Seba off for Niezgoda at the half hour.
I'm sorry did I miss something, did we get substituted a higher division opponent? Because we can't be playing even with a second tier USL team. WTF?
Glad relegation isn't a thing here
Aww, Blanco with a yellow. He's back!
Aaaaand he’s gone. Planned sub at 30mins.
That doesn't surprise me. But the yellow is a sign he's feeling good
Hope so. He didn’t look like a man-among-boys against USL defenders tonight, tho.
I’m gonna need to drink a LOT more at this rate.
I have to cook soon - it's about 5 here in Honolulu so close to dinner time. Given that we've not missed much I might skip out early. I only wish I could drink but currently recovering from cataract surgery so laying off alcohol. You may need to drink for both of us.
The way the Boys are playing I NEED to drink for both of us.
So far I ain’t even getting my $18 bucks worth.
Their #3 dude who looks like Franky in SpyxFamily just ran thru our entire midfield.
Stream keeps dying on me. What I have seen looks like two semi-pro teams playing bad soccer. OC has had a couple good chances. Rasmussen looks like a mid level USL defender which is expected
Yeah, Rasmussen is getting owned by this rec league RW…
Sitting back playing the counter against Seattle? I get it.
Against fucking OCFC? Get outta here.
I know Gio loves him some counter…but giving these people this much of the ball? That’s asking to ship a crap goal and go out in the third round.
I cant get CBS Sports Golazo to work. I can see recorded stuff and I see the Timbers OCSC match and it says now playing but when I click it I get nothing.
Try Pluto tv as well.
Not missing much so far…
The GK rolling out of the box and giving up a free kick was fun. So was seeing Blanco back in the mix and chirping at the ref
What browser are you using? I'm on Firefox and if you are usually in private browsing mode/Icognito (Chrome), then turn it off. Also put your tracking mode to standard.
Hmmm thanks. Firefox and my Tracking is standard, no private browsing and still no televised match.
The Wi-Fi was too slow for it to work, but it started working for me once I switched to a hotspot with my phone. Also try opening the game in a new tab.
Also what JJ Timber said about ad blockers. Also allow cookies, etc.
Make sure there’s no adblocker on, idk if that applies to you but paramount plus doesn’t work on my phone if I have one on
I got it to work in Edge - thanks Deanna and JJ Timber.
