Thorns Down Under: Match Guide
When the Portland Thorns' players at the 2023 Women's World Cup play, who they play, and how to watch.
It’s finally here: the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup has kicked off!
Late last night (or early this morning, rather), co-hosts New Zealand pulled off a stunner, winning their first World Cup game ever 1-0 by upsetting Norway. Fellow co-host Australia also started their campaign off with a 1-0 win, emerging victorious over the Republic of Ireland.
The Portland Thorns have five active players playing at the big dance with four national teams: Christine Sinclair with Canada, Rocky Rodriguez with Costa Rica, Hina Sugita with Japan, and Sophia Smith and Crystal Dunn with the United States.
With the tournament taking place in Australia and New Zealand, we might have to construct some creative sleep schedules to watch the Thorns down under. The kickoff windows vary from the friendly (6 and 7:30 p.m. woo!) to the not-so-friendly (3 a.m. boooo).
Finding the matches should be easy, however, as FOX will air all matches in English on either FOX or FS1. Spanish language broadcasts will be available on the Telemundo family of networks, and all games will be available to be streamed in Spanish on Peacock.
Here’s when each of those national teams will be playing and who they will be playing through the group stage, as well as broadcast information:
