On Thursday, NWSL revealed the schedule for the 2024 season. It was early December when the league announced the upcoming year’s footprint and competition calendar, and almost two months later we have the schedule. This is a nice improvement since the days when the league would take forever to release it.
When will the Thorns’ debut and the home opener take place?
Portland will start its season on the road when they play Kansas City Current on Saturday, March 16. The kickoff time for this game is interesting since it’s going to be played in the morning, at 10 AM and it will be broadcast by ABC and ESPN. That’s very European of you, NWSL.
The home season opener will be against a reloaded Gotham FC, the club that knocked Portland out of their playoff run last year and went on to win the NWSL championship. That match will kick off at 4 PM and those who can’t attend it in Providence Park will be able to watch it on ESPN2, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN+.
Other games to keep an out for
What about the new kids in town, Bay FC and Utah Royals? Portland will travel to San Jose on May 1 to play the Bay, along with Emily Menges. Will she be able to stop Portland from scoring on her new team like she did for the Thorns so many times?
Regarding Utah, Portland will have to wait until June 29 to hop on the road again and face them at 7 PM PT.
The first Cascadia Rivalry of the year will happen on May 11 at 7 PM and will be broadcast by ION. Meghan Rapinoe won’t be around anymore but we trust that Jessica Fishlock and Lauren Barnes won’t make things easy for the Thorns when both teams face each other at Providence Park.
Another duel to keep an eye out for is the one against the North Carolina Courage. The matches against them are always electric and full of goals. Even with Kerolin out due to an ACL injury, that team still has a lot of firepower available. You can watch that game on April 13 at 4 PM.
Are you ready to cheer for the Thorns in their 26-season games? Hopefully, what they do during the season will be enough to grant them a spot among the eight teams that will qualify for the playoffs this year and if they can build something special enough, they’ll go to the ship on November 23.

KC brought in Sophia Braun... who is from Beaverton, played for Jesuit, went to Gonzaga, and has 25 caps for Argentina.
She's a CB, but couldn't we have brought her here?

Ok supersleuths, put it together here.
Some things are easy to make out - Scotland, London, Canada, a CBS Olympics pin. Other things are fuzzier -- "Greetings from Wa...?" Who's face is on the bill? What's the soccer pin on the 5 on the rotary phone -- is it a WWC thing?
Also, the lettering in the announcement looks like it includes some 0s, in "INC0MING 2 P0RTLAND."
Is this all just for Jessie Fleming?
