A great player on and off the field. I'll miss rooting both for and against her.

That cross to Wambach's forehead. That one will forever be burned in my memory.

That was the moment I fell in love with watching women's soccer. Another memory was the duel of UP players Sinclair and Rapinoe in the semifinals of the 2012 Olympics. Sinclair with a hat trick and Rapinoe with a brace that included an Olympico.

That match is forever burned into my memory for a very different reason: the refereeing. The ref made some very unusual decisions that led to a US PK, which Wambach then made to send the game to overtime. Canada deserved to win that one in regulation. I hope Canada received some salve for that injustice when they earned the gold medal at the 2020 (2021) Olympics - though I'm sure they'd have liked to have two.

Rapinoe's Olympic olimpico was indeed sweet! I think she's the only player to score an olimpico in the Olympics, and she did it twice - the second time against Australia in 2021.

Total legend! Hated playing against her, but loved seeing her play.

Just as I wrote (https://rivetingpdx.com/2023/09/18/thorns-fc-rachaels-sister/): "I kinda love ‘Pinoe for her understanding of the role she plays in the Thorns-Reign rivalry: she’s the “heel”. Pinoe just gets it. She loves the kayfabe, loves her part in it, loves trolling the Riveters, loves starting shit because that’s what a heel does. She’s enjoyed a lot of Double Birds over the years, and has reveled in the abuse floating down from the Shed End, and I enjoy that, too. This matchup will be less entertaining without her."
