No fucking way

Gavin Wilkinson lasted a grand total of 8 days at SKC! They actually listened to their fans and kicked him out! That is freaking gold, I am honestly ecstatic

What gets me is, they were tone deaf enough to hire him in the first place. Sounds familiar....

This site going to actually cover the Timbers anymore? Or just the Thorns?

Ain't much Timbers news at present. Hopefully it'll pick up once Coachella games get underway and a couple of much needed DP signings.

hahahahahahahahahaha SKC has already "parted ways" with GW. Toxic asset stays toxic.

so Jesse Lingard, 31 has been linked with the timbers. I think it's a bad idea, but I want to know, even if he earned 50k/wk here (earned $101k/wk at Nottingham forest and 95k/wk at Man u and WHU), what the knock-on effect be for the team/its finances? I need to do work and don't want to think about "JLingz" here.

Why would Lingard be a bad signing?

Imo his wages are way too high for the team and no guarantee of success. He is a gamble for whichever team takes him on, and depending on wages, a costly one

Reminds me of Neville, in a sense, if rumors are true, that Phil was hired because he is associated with PL clubs, and despite his declining performance at his last job.

It wouldn't shock me tbh, but looking into the Lingard, I'd agree PTFC shouldn't blow a precious DP slot with this dude.

Good by the team. I've never been a pro soccer player, but in the corporate world its important for there to be some path to higher-paying roles. Joining a group or org where meaningful career advancement is rare is a big red flag that impacts team performance and retention. Its gotta be a similar case for youth sports teams, especially when parents are devoting so many resources and kids only have a few critical years to get into these pipelines.

The reality is that just like college athletes, only 1-2% of these guys will pan out into first team pros who are contributors, even a smaller number stars. But the number of local assets we have just let slide over the years (partially due to timing of the club entering MLS and then creation of homegrown rules) has always frustrated me.

At the very least, having a club invested in professional youth development may encourage some to take that track - low cost, potential high reward work for the club.

Glad to see the team investing in the kids finally.

This is encouraging. Let's hope it's the start of more investment and more results. The Timbers rank near the bottom of the MLS in first-team homegrown signings.
