Match Preview: Portland Thorns @ Racing Louisville
The Thorns face their final match on the road as they head to Kentucky
The Thorns currently sit in 7th place just above the playoff line, this upcoming match pits them against the No. 9 Racing Louisville.
The match is set for Saturday, October 19th at 4:30 PM PST and will be streamed on ion.
The Thorns are currently coming off two wins: one in NWSL play and one in CONCACAF W Champions Cup. The win in the NWSL came against the previously unbeaten Orlando Pride while the CONCACAF win was a prevailing 6-0 over the Vancouver Whitecaps. Could this be a turning point in the previously rough Thorns season?
Louisville is on the brink of the playoff line and fighting for a playoff spot. They lost their last three matches against Washington Spirit, KC Current, and the Utah Royals.
The last time the two teams met it was at home where they drew 2-2. This was way back in the Mike Norris era of this season. Louisville’s Kanu scored both goals early in the first half and Portland had to fight their way back into the match. Weaver and Coffey were the goal scorers.
Players to watch
Racing Louisville
Newly acquired Bethany Balcer- She had scoring prowess for Seattle Reign and I’m sure as a former Seattlite she’s love to score against Portland.
Kanu- Currently tallies 5 goals this season, two of which came against Portland.
Janine Beckie- This season has shown former Thorns love to score against the Thorns so let’s hope that trend doesn’t continue.
Portland Thorns
Müller- I’ll keep shouting her name from the rooftops, she is so solid all over the pitch.
Spaanstra- Her speed and forward prowess give me Soph Smith vibes, so I’m excited to see how she does with Portland, especially after her contract extension.
Sinclair- She may not play a ton this match, but watch her, it’s her second to last regular season NWSL. Watch her while you can
Predicted Thorns Lineup

Thorns kinda control their own destiny here... as to whether they face guillotine, firing squad, or electric chair in the first round.
Which offers the best odds of survival?
