Guess next week is our last stand. Either we get a win or it's stick a fork in us. I'm sure Neville is disappointed by the draw. Someone ask Phhil in the post game presser why he keeps insisting on this high defensive line and why even his own handpicked defenders that he brought over this season can't defend consistently.

Yay. 9th place.

I have to admit that our ball retrieval has been decent but the play in the final third has been ugly.

How TF do you get called for a foul while dribbling the ball??

Wasn't the most riveting half but grateful to be tied at the half. Still need the 3pts unless we want our playoffs to be one and done.

I'm guessing we have to get results from here on out - wins but a draw or two might be acceptable - or we're out. We're in 8th place and even with the Rapids losing today isn't really going to help us much unless there;s some massive freefall from all the teams above us.

But if you or anyone has done the math then tell us the magic number. Otherwise, my assumption is we need to win tonight for get a point and then win out to finish the season.

Timbers did a great job of adjusting on the fly. I don't know what they changed exactly, but they took Berhalter out of the game.

Bless John and Moreno! And Utvik's foot, too. I'll take it.

Without Ayala and Evander out there to help with buildup and distribution, Mora and co. are going to get no service. My prediction is that if we score, it's probably coming off a set piece. Of course, given we're not playing with a baack line, the Caps could also score off a corner or two.

Been thinking the same about Ayala. His ball progression is light years ahead of anyone else but Evander. He is becoming an indispensable piece.

Is it any worse than some of the US football stadiums/ stadia that have MLS tenants (Charlotte, Seattle and Foxborough)?

Expand full comment

I'd say there's a bit more volume in Seattle and Charlotte. Foxboro is a terrible football stadium

if Mosquera isn't playing upfront by design, he needs to quit being caught up and jogging back to help out on D

With Chara, Paredes, and Kamal all being more defensive players, I’m not going to be as upset about Mosquera getting forward.

Mosquera playing upfield is a feature of his m.o. and not a bug. Imho, he's going to keep on doiing what's he doing cause he's hasn't gotten benched. Must be nice as a pro player to not have any real competition.

How is it that our coaches all played as defenders in higher leagues than MLS, yet they can’t find a lineup that can concentrate on defense?

Expand full comment

Natural tendency is to focus on the strange, on what you don't have or are not as comfortable around. With all the coaches being solid on defense, what they really need is offense. . . right? But it takes time to mold players into a unit instead of a group of individuals. Great play is rewarded, and this is what sticks out to fans. For defense, I would rather have a tight unit of above-average players, than a group of elites each pulling to do where they specialize.

And everyone still expects Chara to plug all of the holes. He is solid, but no longer supernatural, expecially in the small stuff no one notices, and which only a small number could even see.

And RSL was leading 2-1, last I checked. Gonna be a bit difficult without both Ayala and Evander. Guess if Antony could maybe start using both feet - like he did two weeks ago - them maybe we have a better shot. Hoping to see Surman get his debut, also.
