Swollen eye, many stitches. He said not to make a sub because he thought he could go back in, but then realized he couldn't. Good thing is that MA should be able to go Thursday if Zac can't go.
This game was magic and I feel very lucky to have been there! The second half Timbers were a site to behold. Minny's keeper must have felt like he was in a shooting gallery. Neville's subs were timely as the team was using so much energy that it couldn't sustain it. Anthony, as always, was fast but he doesn't seem to be able to hang on to the ball on know what to do with it when he gets past people. Bravo was, Bravo! Chara was young again. JRod missed some gimmes but he worked his ass off and finally got one in with the beautiful assist from Asprilla. Asprillia-what can I say? I will miss him more than any of our other legends who have departed. He's just so special. I've never heard why he's leaving. Retiring, I guess. He did say in the post game interview that he wants to be closer to his family and that he'd like to come back as a coach someday. I'd love it if he did. Evander was frustrated by getting held and beat up all night. Mora still seems a bit "off". Not sure what that's about. Maybe the ball just isn't falling right for him right now. I want Pantemis to be our keeper. Doubt that will happen when MC returns. There was a good and a bad Moreno last night. Hope McGraw can come back soon from a pretty nasty injury. 7 games in a row without a loss. Pretty damned good!
Good take. I could be wrong but thought I heard Asprilla was going back to play in Columbia? Agree, Mora & J Rod just a half step off and man we easily could have had 7 or 8 last night. Evander seems primed to blossom into the player he’s capable of being but downside there is how much longer can we expect to keep him?
Tremendous second half! Wish I could have been there.
Maybe he will keep playing. Strange we don't hear more about why he's leaving. Refing was..."interesting". Really enjoyed the lack of yellow cards and flopping. Just "letting them play" has a certain appeal in terms of game flow. On the other hand, all of the grabbing and tripping against Evander really messes with his game.
Dairon is going to play for Atlético Nacional in Medellin. It's hard to know how much he wants this transfer, between conflicting motivations of (a) wanting to be close to family, (b) seeing his minutes for the Timbers diminish, (c) his obvious love for the Timbers and fans, and (d) unknown attitude about him by the FO and coach.
Thanks for that info. I hadn't heard it anywhere else. I guess Neville's attitude toward him is that he's only good for a couple of minutes at the end of a game. Sad.
I guess we'll find out how it goes when he's back. I've been wondering why Jimmy P. seems to have better results than Maxi C. Could it be that Maxi C. is used to playing for a much better team defensively than the Timbers were before he left to play for Canada? Is Jimmy P. a better "fit" with this team's inconsistent D? As I've mentioned before, Maxi C. seems to play not to make a mistake while Jimmy P. seems more relaxed out there. I'm just spit balling here because I obviously don't know much.
Goddamn that was special. Be sure to track down Craig’s photos and videos from tonight, he got some really great ones. Lots of tears in the army, finally a Dairon chant, and the streets of Portland were singing it as we all left.
Just beautiful dribbling by Santi and shrugging off that tackle. Ant that finish was what I was more or less expecting from John/Mora. But good to see Santi get on the board. He needs to get on track and play more consistently.
I imagine that after being here for a few months, he's just very emotional about Asprilla leaving... no. I got nothing. Really missed a couple of sitters. Take the win and move on, I suppose.
He just can't seem to get a good trap on the ball; his shots have been mostly widly off target as a rresult. He also seems to be a step or two behind the ball so hard so touch is a bit hard t coontrol.
Really hoping we bring in someone to shore up the defense in the summer transfer window. Jona, Mora and Evander have been creating quality chances. Would love to see some better finishing. It would be 3-2 if we had finished the chances we had in the 1st half.
I don't think the transfer fee for Asprilla is very much at all. But I would hope that even if he stayed we would get a new cb or fb - preferably a rb. Do you think NG is watching the Euros much less Copa America. Or do they even have a llist of targets?
Anyone hear any updates on Zac’s facial injury? Looked brutal when he was celebrating postgame but at least he was out there
Not sure if you'll be able to see this or not. https://x.com/zacmcgraw8/status/1807425530876309732

How'd the chant go? I went to stupid Florida and caught covid and couldn't make it! So bummed I wasn't there...
Oh just the classic “oooooooh (insert person’s name broken up into 5 syllables)”. I know that chant as the “Thiago Silva” chant, if that helps at all.
So not particularly inventive, but it was still really fun and special.
Heard it today... Sounds like it was the Seven Nation Army chant.
5.06 XG for Timbers. 3.5 of that is Jona.
Great comeback for the Timbers. If only we could play first halves the way we pay second halves.
We didn’t play bad in the first half. Finishing was off all night.
Damnit...Mr October. Mr. November. Mr December. Whatever. Timbers legend. That is all. Thank you, Dairon.
Asprilla is really feeling it tonight. Sad to see him go.
Can Dairon do a bicyle kick for old time's sake?
Will Dairon be first to get a slab for an assist?
They should just roll a log to his house as a lifetime achievement award.
A thing of poetic beauty!!!
Go ahead and try to overrule that one, VAR!
Fuck yeah!
What a combeack by John! Told the ref to thake the offsides and shove it.
Jona! Finally!!! Thank you Dairon for that assist!!
This one'll count!
Ford is a terrible ref.
On the flip side, Timbers have never lost a home match reffed by Ford...
Yeah but is he Chapman level yet?
Chapman is only awful if you are the home team. Ford is on the same level as freeman. Their game management is awful.
But hey, to be fair (not that it's deserved) we've now still never lost a game that this guy has reffed... not for lack of trying though, I suppose.
But aren't they all? Can anyone name a good one or even a halfway decent one?
Elfath is usually good.
Worst refs in the world
You must not watch NWSL games. Those truly are the worst refs in the world.
That is a fair point. NWSL refs make mls refs look crazy good
Yep. You got us there.
I despise ProRefs
Another terrible call.
From the angle on replay I thought he was onside, too. And it was so close that shouldn't the attacker get the benefit of the doubt?
Great little chip from Rodriguez to Antony.
Wow! And onsides to boot? I wasn't expecting that.
Maybe not a goal, after all.
At least the ref is bad in all facets of the game.
What are the chances we go from no fouls ever being called directly to a red for someone?
Moon shots from a yard out are my favorite moon shots
Timbers look ravenous. Loving this look for them.
I can't imagine that this isn't the worst game we'll see out of Rodriguez in a Timbers uniform.
JR would have the golden boot if he would hit his sitters.
Is there a lead boot award?
John is having quite a night. And not in a good way. Think this is just about the worst outing he's had since he got here.
Jona's got money on Loons
Mora absolutely should of have been there to put that one in. He hesitated.
Just beautiful dribbling by Santi and shrugging off that tackle. Ant that finish was what I was more or less expecting from John/Mora. But good to see Santi get on the board. He needs to get on track and play more consistently.
!!!! Dairon time!!!!
Finally! Nice play and finish.
MORENO!!!
The attack tonight is...cringe.
The finishing, for sure.
I thought Bravo was excellent tonight.
Can he just not do more minutes? Once again he looked ticked about coming out.
Agreed.
Rodriguez is just not having a good game tonight. It happens but it would be better to happen in a game they didn't fall behind by 2 goals.
I imagine that after being here for a few months, he's just very emotional about Asprilla leaving... no. I got nothing. Really missed a couple of sitters. Take the win and move on, I suppose.

Just can't seem to finish tonight.
That's what she said ☹️
Moreno has been great tonight. I wish we could finish though.
I'm not seeing it-- Santi loses the ball A LOT
I stand corrected!
We're putting Minny's defense under pressure but the finishing - ugh.
Loving the pressure to start the half.
Their keeper has been annoyingly good.
Thank Allah they brought Miller in for McGraw instead of Mabs.
Really hoping we bring in someone to shore up the defense in the summer transfer window. Jona, Mora and Evander have been creating quality chances. Would love to see some better finishing. It would be 3-2 if we had finished the chances we had in the 1st half.

Saved by offsides. Very clear.
What was scary was just how slow the defense has been. Other than being offsides, that shot was way too easy to get off.
Story of the season.
Even so, the defense didn't even seem to be aware until it happened that he was making that run.
Cannot disagree. Caught napping.
At least we can go into the half having pulled one back. Still not good all around but beggars can't be choosy on how we get goals.
Whew!
Absolutely a penalty.
PRO Refs gonna PRO Ref. Terrible call.
Things can only get better with Mabiala coming on for defense, right?... Right?
No
Right.
"Evander Territory" should be a shirt. I would buy it.
No
Just awful positonal awareness by the defense...yet again. At this point, I'd rather see Dairon in for the rest of the match.
