Just got home from the Park. I’ve been supporting the Timbers for a minute and don’t remember them ever playing that kinetically. The spacing, movement, confidence, work rate, cohesion, and commitment is fucking incredible. Not just that, but the energy downtown is a true delight.
Between the FO’s constant own goals and the misery of Gio Ball, I’d almost given up on the club. Glad I didn’t, because this transformation is hard to process. PTMFFC can take it to any team in the league right now.
Our transition play has really been something special lately! The way that Jona and Santi are able to take it down the lines is pretty crazy. Gotta give props to JDM too, he's been outstanding. This whole attack is just really exciting to watch.
Hey, so it turns out that we’re, like, actually really good? This feels very odd. Shutting out RSL is massive. Williamson and Chara were awesome today, as was literally everyone. I could just keep listing names really. I believe Eryk and Evander can work great together. I’d loooove to see an Ayala-Williamson-Evander midfield
For me, one takeaway from following this sub-stack for the last couple of years is that the Timbers have got "it", it's just a matter of how they're utilized
The shut out was the most important part of this match. I’m blown away by their spacing and movement in the attack. During the ridiculousness of Gio Ball, I would constantly be screaming for a cross field switch. Never happened. Just endless dumb square passes.
There were a pile of outstanding switches tonight. Accurate, dangerous touch to touch passes that pried RSL open. They could not deal with the acres of space PTMFFC were creating. This team is electric.
Yes. This exactly. The absolute refusal to play the switch or anything other than a short square pass made me want to claw my eyes out, lol. I'm so happy to be watching exciting football again.
It was a bummer to hear Neville talk in the post-game presser about how much we are going to get for Santi “in the next 12 to 18 months” because of how great Neville thinks he is going to be.
Hey Bethany! Long time no see. Absolutely ok with me if they show up against LAG playing like this. Now if we could keep repeating this performance for the rest of the season...well then
Just been looking ahead at MLS' schedule... We are finally gonna be a trap game for somebody!
LAG has to play 3 matches in 7 days. They play COLO this Wed just before us, and after their lay-down in DAL last night they are clearly pointing at that game.
We are at last gonna benefit from somebody else's tired legs and emotional fatigue... ready for another DChara header goal?!?
Our defense has looked more controlled with a better shape tonight, but that open header chance by Arango was a breakdown we were lucky we didn't pay for.
RSL is getting away with an awful lot of holding where they just grab a Timbers player from behind with both hands, but the ref is letting a lot go right now, for both sides.
Really nice to see some progression in the way we have been playing. Hopefully phil continues to prove us doubters wrong. This team Is headed in the right direction. Nice to see we are headed in any direction after so many years of complacency.
Solid catch by Pantemis right there. It wasn't difficult at all but given that previous keepers in the past had a hard time catching the ball much less flapping around, there's something to be appreciated for doing the basics well.
He can finish but his inconsistency from game to game is probably the one big factor why he's playing here rather than in Europe. It's the streakiness that is stopping him from the really big $$$.
That's what I meant -- finish good chances consistently. He's constantly findin good spots. Just imagine if instead of finishing 1 of 5 point blank opportunities he would finish 1 of 3. He'd be an MVP candidate.
This game is turning out to be a lot more rougher than I thought. RSL isn't untalented but they're doing their best to kick us. And the ref is letting them get away with it. Guess the bump in salary really went to a good cause, yeah?
I think he was already on a yellow when he went after Mora as the hold he did to start the play is supposed to be an automatic yellow, so that didn't seem right.
MLS? Bad refereeing is just part of soccer, all the way down to even high school. It’s part of the show.
In all truth, though, soccer has a larger field than football with as many players…and NCAA and NFL put 7 refs on the field to soccer’s 3. They’re just gonna miss a lot more from that far away.
Chara's yellow was warranted and absolutely no excuse for Jona dissenting that strongly and getting a yellow within the first 8 mins. He should know by now MLS refs are inconsistent, to say the least.
Ok, anyone know where that goal ranks as far as the fastest we've scored? Top 5? Maybe top 10? And Santi absolutely beating and rounding the defense to lay off the ball to Mora - that's what we're all been looking for, right?!
We have played all our regular season games against LAFC right? Galaxy is gonna be a beast I bet

LFG.
Snowball effect of hard work good decisions and good results...

Amen
Final comment...clean sheet against RSL. The Timbers posted a clean sheet against RSL
Another brilliant display of attacking and dare I say a solid defensive performance? Pure joy to watch.
Watching PTFC shut down attacks was immensely satisfying
Another 3 points! Like I said after the Nashville game: "great job, everyone!"
Revel in this. No notes.
We're taking it to RSL. You should grin and chortle
Callooh! Callay!
Great to see the guys still being aggressive. Got that third goal and I think we can put this match to bed.
Santi looked good tonight. Like a "great night" type of performance.
It was a bummer to hear Neville talk in the post-game presser about how much we are going to get for Santi “in the next 12 to 18 months” because of how great Neville thinks he is going to be.
Yes especially in such a rough game. He didn’t allow himself to get pushed around
Didn't he? More confident.
Our boys had such good morale -
Not sure who this Timbers is, but I'm very interested I'm seeing them again
It's a tall ask but I would love to see this verion of the guys against lafc next week.
Gotta wait then... they play at LAG
Hey Bethany! Long time no see. Absolutely ok with me if they show up against LAG playing like this. Now if we could keep repeating this performance for the rest of the season...well then
Hey Deanna!
Just been looking ahead at MLS' schedule... We are finally gonna be a trap game for somebody!

We could have done just fine without Evander today
Maybe so but he still had some sick moves
That is silly. You have NO idea how much energy and bodies he takes away from the other team??
I have no idea? I’m watching him playing.
Our defense has looked more controlled with a better shape tonight, but that open header chance by Arango was a breakdown we were lucky we didn't pay for.
I thought Mora tracked him pretty well and got a body on him
We should be up 4-0
Worth saying twice.
We should be up 4-0
Really appreciate all the aggression on attack but we need to pass and shoot better. And quicker.
RSL is getting away with an awful lot of holding where they just grab a Timbers player from behind with both hands, but the ref is letting a lot go right now, for both sides.
What's the rad sounding chant from the TA right now?
Looking at the back line right now, I think Zuparic has definitely claimed a starting job. As for his partner, guess we'll see when Miller returns.
Dude puts in work
I will always credit Zuparich for his grit and effort. Sure he has his off moments but he gives 100% every game
If they kept a stat for knocks he would win every year
he's out there laying down the law!
The Timbers need to do everything they can to keep Williamson
Evander needs to distribute the ball faster
Or shoot faster.
This reminds me of the USA vs Panama game in the Copa. How in the F do RSL have 3 yellows on 18 fouls and we have 3 on 6? Wtf kind of ref is this
Vera sucks. All he does is run around and kicking us.
RosenToooorrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!
Golden boot for JRod if he hits sitters. nice job Moreno.
That was one wacky goaL. Love, love, love!!!
Santi having a great night
Finally ping pong in our favor! I've been waiting so long for that.
You've got to finish your chances, John. Haven't we said that before?
😏
Really nice to see some progression in the way we have been playing. Hopefully phil continues to prove us doubters wrong. This team Is headed in the right direction. Nice to see we are headed in any direction after so many years of complacency.
Still have this transfer window to build up the roster as well....
Zuparic has been massive so far
he's out there laying down the law! another excellent outing from him. he has taken over leading the defense.
Timbers being the better team with 30% possession against a top opponent bemuses me
We did a defense!
Solid catch by Pantemis right there. It wasn't difficult at all but given that previous keepers in the past had a hard time catching the ball much less flapping around, there's something to be appreciated for doing the basics well.
If Jona could finish he'd be amazing.
He did get a brace recently as I recall ..
It's a drinking game right now
He can finish but his inconsistency from game to game is probably the one big factor why he's playing here rather than in Europe. It's the streakiness that is stopping him from the really big $$$.

At least he is going for it. I get so frustrated when attackers don't attack.
Thanks for making my point again, Jona :(
Williamson appreciation post.
Games like will only get him transferred elsewhere where he'll deservedly start on a regular basis
Dude looked solid. I personally hope he sticks around.
You have to finish better than that, Jonathan.
This game is turning out to be a lot more rougher than I thought. RSL isn't untalented but they're doing their best to kick us. And the ref is letting them get away with it. Guess the bump in salary really went to a good cause, yeah?
How many fouls does Luna get before he gets a yellow
With ProRefs, it's either based on coin flip, zodiac sign or moon phase apparently
RSL channeling their inner San Jose right now
Maybe it is just me but that shove really seemed like violent conduct. What a dumb foul.
I think he was already on a yellow when he went after Mora as the hold he did to start the play is supposed to be an automatic yellow, so that didn't seem right.
I'll say it again. Fuck ProRefs into the Sun. #RinseRepeat
So a deliberate hold (automatic yellow card) then an elbow into the chest somehow is only a single yellow card? That needs some explanation.
The ref is losing control of the game already
At least two of those RSL fouls appeared as bad as what Diego got a yellow card for, but unsurprisingly, no card for RSL...
Chara gets a card, RSL gets counseling....mmmkay
Chill out, boys.
They are chilled. It’s the refs ineptitude, like many in the MLS

Really strong start from Williamson, particularly defensively
