It’s a huge match at Providence Park as the Timbers seek to leave their road loss to the Rapids behind them as they fight for the playoffs. Will they tally a win against the first-place Galaxy? Dear Reader: I have no bloody clue. Come chat about it anyway!
We were fortunate enough to be at this game and super fortunate that we met a great guy at the Kingston before the game who offered us tickets in Tanner Ridge instead of our usual spot in 121. What a great view from up there and a free hot dog and doughnuts to boot! It was fun to see how "the other half" lives!
Oh yeah, then there was the game. My oh my, did our boys ever give it their all. Could have been up at least 4-1 in the first half, but oh well. The D really showed up tonight with Zup the star of the show IMO. Too bad he's got too many yellows and will miss the next game. Mosquera continues to impress me after my wanting to get rid of him earlier in the season. So much for my talent evaluation skills. I wanted Evander to get his hat trick. He's a conundrum-capable of amazing accuracy and of kicking moon shots the rest of the time. Love J Rod's relentless energy and Moreno really showed up tonight. So happy that Mora finally got to cash in. Topping it all off, Anthony proved me wrong right after he came on by not only running past a defender but actually doing something with his left foot on his assist to Mora! I take Atenolol but my heart rate was up all night. Great game!
I can't wait to get home and watch this game. I am traveling and was unable to watch, thanks to a hotel owned by probably the biggest entertainment conglomerate on the planet (or at least in this cursed town) not having Apple TV in its damn sports bar, and having the dumb hotel network firewall block my attempts at logging in to my own Apple TV. But if that's what it takes for the Timbers to beat the conference leaders, I guess that's what it takes.
Jonathan actually kicked the ball away from the defenders and toward the penalty spot while lying on the ground. Not sure it was deliberate, but if it was it was a very smart move!
I picked the wrong match to prep dinner at HT. Should have planned to miss part of the first half instead. Thank God Apple has the replay. I'm gonna want to watch the 2nd half in full.
I know Porter sounded unhinged when he went on that rant about Tim Ford. But this guy is just a terrible ref. Bottom of the pool. And I thought Ted Unkel was about the lowest they could go.
Wth did I miss? Had to go cook dinner and we scored another goal but so did the Gals? How much of the play so far is having both Mora and Rodriguez in there as opposed to Antony? And of course, the Gals backline?
Evander jumped on a loose ball in the box after Rodríguez went down in the box and finished to make it 3-1. The Galaxy scored when Zuparic kept a Galaxy player onside when he put in a rebound that came off the post.
It really looked like the Galaxy defenders just stopped when they thought they were going to get a PK called against them, but Evander was the only one who saw the ball was free for the taking and made them pay.
Their 9 drops in, Zup follows, vacates the space, Pec slashes in to the vacant spot. 2-1. We have to track runners off the ball and can’t assume we have cover.
Can we scrap the win probability stat and get a ref probability stat instead? That way we can gauge the chances that a ref will give a card. And under what circumstances.
Kamal is doing alright there for now, though I do blame him somewhat for both goals tonight. We have some prospects at T2, including Jura, whose contract converts to a first team one soon. We might have been able to get a player on loan through the end of the season or found the fullback equivalent of Toye though. Maybe they looked and weren't able to figure anything out.
Or maybe another rb in case one of the fullbacks got injured - which happened, of course. Like Eric Miller is a perpetual backup and not anyone you want to start ever. And as you can see, he's not starting tonite.

Gotta give Antony credit for the left- footed cross.. I've been on him pretty hard
I thought he did a better job of holding on to the ball too. A good showing by him IMO
Does Jonathan get an assist for falling over the ball and leaving it for Evander?

I saw that! Impossible to tell whether he intended to do that, but if he did, it should be the assist of the season!

Great win. Mildly annoyed we're still lower playoff table. Onward
Fun game! We dodged a lot of bullets but a great game!
We need to be smart of killing off this game; the Gals are going all out and just kicking us right now.
8+ added time. The result of apoor game management by Ford.
Whoa, San Jose has tied it up against Seattle. They're in stoppage time too.
And how much stoppage? Is the ref for that game doing a better job?
Not watching (the Timbers are playing!), just saw the score.
Aaaaaaand SEA-SJ is done. 2-2 FT. Did not have that on my dance card, especially in a home game for the Sounders.
And I certainly didn't have SKC beating Col on my bingo card. Which makes the win tonight absolutely crucial for our playoff push!
Yeah, looks like SKC didn't just beat Colorado, they hammered them 4-1.
8 minutes???
Evander's got tunnel vision for that hatty.
I know Porter sounded unhinged when he went on that rant about Tim Ford. But this guy is just a terrible ref. Bottom of the pool. And I thought Ted Unkel was about the lowest they could go.
The ProRef bar is so low, only a geologist could analyze it properly
That should be second YC on Yoshida
GET STUCK IN LADS!
Did my eyes deceive me or did Antony just send in a cross with his left foot?
Not complaining through, nice cross and nice finish by Mora.
!!!!!!!!!THE CURSE IS BROKEN!!!!!!!!
Squeaky bum time.
Spoke too soon!
Dear announcer, Fuck off. Sincerely, GK Union
Yoshida goes down like he broke a leg. Then when he realizes the ref isn't interested, he gets up and everything is fine.
Forgot Reus ended up in LA

Timbers need to find that killer instinct/finish. This is a very beatable LA
That is the correct call on the Galaxy goal.
Take that you divey asshats

If Chara had done what Yoshida just did, you know that would have been a red card. No doubt.
And a two game ban
Fuck this ref into the Sun
The Gals must still be hungover after winning ElTraffico. Ok with me. But we are really killing them right now in the midfield and the final third.
Moreno has been great tonight. A lot of take aways
EvanderrrrrrrrrrrToooooooorrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!
I'm running out of scatological adjectives to describe ProRef's ineptness
Is this ref going to call foul on all Galaxy player dives?
Ford is a joke.
Just ask Porter.
Our Win Probability went up. Amazing....
Now that was a nice finish! Good to see John get on the board.
That Evander pass.....my word
That was very nice football
Off topic for this thread, but relevant if you watched any early games today:
Is there anything in the entire MLS more moronic and annoying than the animatronic spike in Atlanta?
Pretty sure everybody else says, "PRO REFS"...
Dear JDM: Please, please play defense. Pretty please? And I'm not asking - I'm begging - you.
Anyone know why Bravo is not on the 18?
Knee injury. He's out for about 12 weeks. Might as well call it a season ender. Big bummer.
Great thing Timbers decided they didn't need a backup left back.
