The Timbers head back on the road to face the revitalized San Jose Earthquakes. Need a place to talk through the game? Want some friends to lament seeing Jeremy Ebobisse in different colors with? Look no further than the discussion thread!
Also for all the crap I give Asprilla, he is still very goal dangerous. He can play terrible for 90 minutes but pop up in a key moment and score, and he damn near did that this game. That’s worth something
Additional players, hopefully adding significant talent, are needed on offense. In tonight’s game, the best available attacking subs were Niezgoda, post-injury Blanco, and Loria or Fogaca. Niezgoda can score, but he doesn’t create much and Blanco is not his former self. Loria is a good occasional sub and Fogaca is quick and shows potential. However, you would like to have one or two players who add a lot on offense and have a reputation as being a starting-caliber player. Top teams usually have great subs. As Portland and multiple other MLS teams have shown this year it is very difficult to win if you are injured and don’t have quality depth.
Felt like a classic PTFC-SJ match. Lots of fouls and neither team gets a lot of good looks at goal. Our defense has less emergency defending and looks less porous.
SJ defense still look like a bunch of hockey players😆😆😆
The Timbers need to get to full strength … with those players who are injured or on national call-up all returning, except for those injured for the year … in order to be fully competitive. And the team probably needs to get two or three additional players during the summer transfer window. At least the defense has stabilized a lot, and the offense can get upfield. Even the currently available players need to elevate their level of play in the final third. Still, shutouts at Seattle and San Jose are good!
Blanco coming on for Santi. And here's the Goda sub. Fresh legs but we all know these are the usual suspects so don't hold your breath when it comes to a possible goal.
Why is it that, when attacking, there are always two Timbers getting in each other’s way? It seems to happen over and over. This game, and all season. Timbers just stepping all over one another. It’s weird.
Totally this. Guys not running into space and just standing around. The off ball movement is awful. Just really points to a lack of coaching. I'm not saying we should get Tata (can't anyway since he's probably headed to Miami) but do we really ahve to put up with this dreck every week?
This is usually when Gio brings Niezgoda in for Boli, which I think would be a big mistake right now. Boli has been one of our better players tonight. Asprilla needs to come off
honestly I think I'm going to bed. This game is putting me to sleep and we are reverting to boring ass soccer. It hard to watch and even get excited about watching. Hopefully we get lucky and find a goal. Have a good night all
Pretty boring first half. It’s annoying the lack of energy we play with away from home. Boli had some good moments, I wish we could find ways to find him making runs in the channels. Wingers haven’t provided much, especially Asprilla. Feels like it’s gonna be another 0-0 game, which would be good on its own, but in the situation we are in and with San Jose missing a few key players, it’s not a great result if it holds
A young DP winger would be such a massive help

I guess a result is a result. I did like Bingham tonite. Other than that, nothing much to write home about.

Props to Gio and the squad for cleaning things up defensively. This was a well-played game except for the final third.
Attack needs to arrive.
On the bright side three clean sheets in a row. I wish Evander earned his money and put that chance away.
Excellent pass from Boli there.
Very good second half, that really should’ve been a win
Agree. Just need to start making things happen at goal.
Asprilla needs to leave that for Niezgoda there
Please prove me wrong Timbers, but this feels like a late goal 1-0 loss.
Or a 0-0 draw.

This and the lack of off-ball movement dives me crazy

What a save from Bingham! Asprilla almost costed us a goal there, he needs to be going to the ball. Subs Gio!

uh oh, Paredes. Like I said, undisciplined. Also the team as a whole suffers from a lack of positioning nous.

Definitely don't look like the team that came out flying last week, but it's not as bad as most games this year. So a positive.
Honestly, this team plays like a high school side. And not varsity but jv. So tactically lost and undisciplined defensively.
Is Moreno trying for another yellow?
Awe man, not Chara
Looks like he will be alright. Who would be the sub?
It would be Caliskan, the only other CM on the roster. He got up to warm up when Chara went down
Shiver me Timbers
That was my first thought. Caliskan? Loria? I don't think we have any real subs for D Chara anymore given all the injuries.
Terrible tackle Moreno, whatcha doin?
Oh shit
Mosquera playing for country?
Why no Ivacic?
Yes, international duty for each of them
Here we go!
