We need a player to get the ball off their foot faster. So indecisive. The shots were there, they just need to be taken…too many touches. MLS …Maybe Let’s Shoot aka we need a true nine.
Agreed, but the striker isn’t the only one who can score a goal. It’s very hard to score if you don’t shoot the ball in the general area of the goal frame. Maybe the hope if for “Own Goals” by the opposition?
While I admit Olsen has imprved a bit from his Olsenball style, you still can't erase it completely. Houston still sepnds plenty of time fouling from behind.
It makes me crazy. It’s as if no one wants to take responsibility for shooting and not scoring. Everyone wants to pass it just one more time Take a shot, maybe you score, maybe a deflection, handball, rebound off a defender for another opportunity but NO, let me get cute for that wonderful assist that everyone will be talking about. Just SHOOT the damned ball!!!!
Evander is so inconsistent and often appears not into the game mentally. Unless he catches fire at some point soon, he will be remembered as a $10 million bust. That kind of money buys a far superior player.
Well, I'm no soccer guru, but I thought that's the best D I have seen from the Timbers in a long time. Antony tracking back and defending aggressively. JDM knowing his assignment. The D on the wings so much better than anything I saw under Gio. Mainly Neville seems to be getting our wingers to work hard which is trait usually lacking on the Timbers. I was hoping a former EPL dude would bring in a better work ethic.
Maybe it is just me but I'm starting to get irritated by Dorsey. Just a preference of mine but I like defenders who aren't always running and making tackles from behind.
Watching that goal again, Zup kinda started the whole thing by messing up the back line's alignment. JDM still should have let the keeper have the ball, but we see why Zup isn't starting anymore.
nah, gotta be alert to defend, that includes watching the line on your centerbacks and playing safety first not a weird control of the ball in your box if you are going to go.
they did when Gio was in charge, it could be they didn't get an offer and/or decided to try the new coach, I think they are better than a lot of mls defenders and good to have.
Was that Paredes who made that clumsy challenge/move? Also not a good clearance by Mosquera but he wasn't exactly in position, either. Just a real lack of discipline on that goal.
bravo gets sucked into fouling more, but is a good 1v1 defender and doesn't have the same lack of defensive anticipation, I am not sure it's a thing that would work for us but I could see a 3 in the back in the tough games we have coming.
I would disagree, tbh. Bravo is better than JDM on defense but doesn't close down as well as he should. He also tends to get himeself not just with fouls but just being positionally out of place or not reacting quickly enough. That said, 3 in the back with a rock solid cb who can read and direct. Not sure even Zup can do it. Also, the cb corps is kida slow. But it could be an option going forward depending if we get new personnel.
Digging the new site logo. Nice job. If it's open for some tweaks, I'd say make the ball grey, or at least a little less white; it kinda sticks out like a sore thumb against the dark background of the rest of the image. But I like it overall.
Or, now that I look at it again - maybe make the sun behind the mountains the ball? I mean, we all know this is a soccer site (it's right there in the name!), the ball doesn't have to be front and center, right?
You'rve probably heard the news already...that it looks like we're getting Jrod for around $5 million...I take it that you're probably not as enamored with the signing (if true) than the new logo? -;)
At $5M, I'm not super upset about it, actually. I'd prefer a younger player but I like that there was a plan AND a backup plan, and the time commitment isn't too long so if it doesn't work out the team's not hamstrung.

we took plenty of quick shots...20 rows into the stands!
The amount of wasted chances was cringe
Win, lose, or draw… at least our keeper doesn’t have a fucking rat tail.
Another example of the Timbers playing down to their opponents level
we have often been wiped in texas, playing ok but a mistake and lack of real striker in the team, not bad by Phizzer ?

West Texas is Portland's krytonite....clearly
Same rerun of last season...no ideas once we're in the final third. Nada. Zilch. Zero.
TBF, we should have 3 or 4 goals today with the looks they've had and just missed. Guys are definitely off on shooting today.
Against a very pedestrian team no less...
Masquera is at a 5.7 player rating right now. Worst of the season for any player.
Willamson in...early sub which is nice to see that at least Neville is being proactive.
C'mon Miller.....
The amount of times players have been in a good position to shoot at goal or score and come up empty is a concerning trend. Shoot the Fing ball.

They've been taught well by Gioball.
Houston is 2nd from bottom, yet here we are hoping for end of game heroics to get a draw at least
Man, Evander is garbage tonight. I guess he figures his golazo last week means he's earned his pay for March.
Evander is so inconsistent and often appears not into the game mentally. Unless he catches fire at some point soon, he will be remembered as a $10 million bust. That kind of money buys a far superior player.
not a player that is ideal when we don't have the ball much
True dat, but he's part of the reason we haven't been able to hold onto it.
He plays like he's trying not to get a bruise

that goal is on max. there was no way he was getting to that ball first. he should have stayed on his line.

Didn't Zup ask for a trade last season? Maybe we should have obliged him and put the money into a new cb.

Womp womp half

Edit: Pardon, it was Zup.
Only thing worse than Mosquera not playing defense is Mosquera trying to play defense.
Or Bravo doing the same stuff. We have fullbacks who can't play solid defense but sure can move upfield. If you need wingbacks, theyre your guys.

That was......bad? Amateurish? Timbersy?
Well, at least the corner was playable for us...
Right? Our service on spot kicks is pretty underwhelming
Looking at the back four's positioning, this is going to be a loong afternoon.
How TF is that not a card??
Ref saw Chi-Mon match and went, "yeah, I want to ref just like that guy!' 22 min added time coming along with phantom calls for corners.
Gotta love Houston - home of side boards advertising funeral services...
i hope we got a discount!
Yet another empty Houston stadium...sad

I think the ball is fine as long as the Timbers who put it in the net.
Plus, those who comment first like me are promised a special reward in the after life or whatever 8<)).
What! The game's an hour away and no comments yet?? I know it's beautiful day in Timbers land but we need to show the boys some love, right?
TBF, remember last year? When the STF game thread often wasn't up util 15 min or so into the match?
And I actally waited until after the match started to check in! Surprised they even got the ghread up so quickly!
Wasn't that just last game? I was honestly shocked to see it up. STF doesn't seem to cover the Timbers much anymore.
Yeah, I think so. At least it wasn't that way today.
