Yeah, would've loved the hatty but still have the rest of the season. Wanted Pantemis to get the clean sheet but at least we only gave up a single goal. Nashville is bad, alright. Seeing another team struggle like we've struggled makes me feel for their supporters. All in all the most important takeaway is we got a win so three more points. Great job, everyone!

Speaking of Pantemis vs Maxie C.-why is it that the latter seems to be a star for team Canada at the moment and the former is seemingly doing quite well for the Timbers? Has our D improved THAT much since Maxie C. left or is Pantemis a better fit for this team? I must say that I'm not looking forward to Maxie coming back given the run that Pantemis has been on.

I think the defense has gotten better, still needs improvement. Personally I am not that worried about either goalie starting, they are both very good, and I don't remember (m)any saves that either should have saved but didn't.

Solid win. No one wilted. No one got yellow card suspension

Expand full comment

I agree. It felt like we were trying to force the hat trick and a clean sheet is always nice, but this is a really solid win and puts us in a great position moving forward.

Expand full comment

Ah. Would've been nice to have the clean sheet.

Expand full comment

Buckle up. It ain't over until the fat lady...or the ref...sing.blows the whistle.

Moreno needs some finishing practices!

Someone's gonna invent warp drive before the Timbers score a hat trick

Expand full comment

Their goalie looks like Rick Simon from Simon and Simon. I might be dating myself here.

Expand full comment

It is just crazy watching us up 4 to 0 but still watching Nashville punching right through the defense with regularity.

Expand full comment

No phill and we put up 4 and draw a red. Maybe phil should miss the rest of the season and come back for the trophy ceremony

Expand full comment

Phil was there. In a box above section 115. That was a bit of fun…he was rev’n up the crowd!

Expand full comment

MLS must have changed the rules because FIFA frowns on grabbing an offensive player by the arm in the penalty area.

Expand full comment

Sounds great to me!

Expand full comment

Hard to believe the ref needed a replay inorder to make that call. Still we have 45 min left to go to still get that hatty!

Freeman as I said last week is terrible. Sure looked like knee on knee contact to me but isn’t a foul unless it is called.

Expand full comment

On replay, kinda seemed a bit of a shove, too?

Expand full comment

Jona obviously tries to sell it, and Moore did lunge at his knee but one of the last views they played seemed to show that Moore didn't actually touch Jona's knee. I wish he would've stayed on his feet.

Expand full comment
founding

Was it soft? Absolutely. But I fail to see the clear and obvious error as it wasn’t a foul.

Expand full comment

there was some arm in there

Expand full comment

Also looked like he caught Jon's right foot

Expand full comment
founding

Exactly. I don’t even think it was a question of shove or knee on knee, it was about him stepping on Jona’s foot, which he did. I thought it was goddamn obvious, and after the ref made his call the camera showed Jona pointing to his right foot saying he got stepped on. Should have been a penalty, but Freeman gonna Freeman.

And without evander!

Bruh… Nashville defense looks goddamn TERRIBLE. They definitely watched a lot of Timbers tape, haha

Expand full comment

Yeah but they're not supposed to be watching tape DURING the game.

Expand full comment

Well, apparently we’re done for the night. What, are the Timbers feeling sorry for them?

Expand full comment

OK, your team is up 4 goals to nil, and it's 95 degrees on the field, and STILL first half. You need to see a psychiatrist?

Expand full comment

I get that but this is not unique to tonight; we do this on a regular basis. AND we likely will let them score with ten players because, well, the game is over…..

Expand full comment

Seeing the other team implode is nicely cathartic

What I really enjoyed was Miami getting blasted uesterday. And Busquets had a horrible match. And Mess and Suarez still in Copa America, lol!

It was a fluke! Things will get back to normal. Go Miami!

Expand full comment

Having a $30m international superstar on an MLS team is far from "normal".

Expand full comment

Seeing Officer Penso send off Busquets for too much mouth was wonderful TV

Expand full comment

A FOURTH GOAL?!?!?!?!? What is this?

Expand full comment

Oooh, that did not look good for Ayala. Was that the knee he injured last time?

Expand full comment

Ok, glad he's all right. Sometimes those tackles look worse in slo-mo than they really are.

Expand full comment

I'm not expert but does the knee need to actually buckle in order for it to be the dreaded acl?

Expand full comment

No, it just has to look like it did😬😉

Expand full comment

Did us and the team get transported to Oz? We've just scored 4 goals and without Evander on the pitch! And even Williamson is getting into the act despite not getting much pt lastely. Maybe it's like the dream from Dallas in which Bobby is still alive?

Expand full comment

Best 1H of the season, by far! And, yes, without Evander. Evander is a very good player, but not indispensably good that Timbers can’t win without him. In fact, ball movement without him has been as fluid as any other match with him in it. Too bad, match is not fitting with your confirmation bias narrative! But, wait, Neville is also out, so that must be it! 😉

Everything is going their way tonight! That Mosquera mis-hit turned into a perfect pass

I smell a Jona hat trick

i'm blaming you!

Holy (green) smokes

How about first Timbers hat trick in MLS era?

Expand full comment

Jona has a brace, time to sub him out. 😆

Expand full comment

Noooooooooo!!! But yes, that’s going to happen to deny our first hat trick.

Did John eat wheaties today?

Expand full comment

Who is this “John” you repeatedly mention?

Expand full comment

Wow, Nashville is bad

Expand full comment

They have been a threat on our goal though.

Expand full comment

We'll see what Callaghan can do with Mukhtar/Sturridge. There's talent but pretty clear the Gary Smith ways of defense, defense, and more defense really doesn't work in today's mls. Not with guys like GIroud and Messi coming in.

Shaq Moore showing why he shouldn't be on the National team

Expand full comment

Have to admit, I've been totally mystified by Moore's entire careet. But I think it is partially a player pool and Berhalter issue. He fits the scheme and the picking are thin so...

Expand full comment

Woo hoo! Even without Evander!?

Expand full comment

TBH we are in a lot of trouble if we can't win, or are less likely to win, in the absence of any particular player, right?

Expand full comment

That’s probably why….

Expand full comment

I knew Mora was going to score. How you ask? Well, I put 9 drops of hot sauce on my dinner and said to my wife, “Mora is going to score.”

Expand full comment

Good on Pantemis for quickly coming off the line. Given our swiss cheese defense, we are sure lucky ot have both him and Max. Btw, anyone else see Max backstop Canada against Venzuela? The pk shootout must have been real stressful for the Canucks!

Expand full comment

That combination Rodriguez / Mora is working just fine…

Expand full comment

Indeed. No need to get a new 9 like some twits - probably non Timbers fans - are claiming. Defense should be no 1 followed by the midfield.

Expand full comment

So, anyone not advocating for a defender addition in the upcoming transfer window is a non-Timbers fan twit? Interesting! 🤔

Expand full comment

Aren't we signing a young defender out of New Zealand? Finn something from Wellington?

Expand full comment

*Surman. Haha, kind of a funny autocorrect.

Expand full comment

The Surman surname gets it every time.

Expand full comment

I think if you are a fan of the Timbers you're more likely to see that the backline is sore isuue and has been for several seasons now. If we didn't maybe sign John this season then I might agree with makeing upgrdes. But I believe we've fot the offense part mostly covered. And yes, non Timbers means neutral observers or probably fans of other teams. But if you're a Timbers fan and think we need a new 9 then ok. You're entitled to your opinion.

Expand full comment

Can you please lower the temperature of your posts. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and having a discussion and disagreement is fine, but calling people twits and insulting them, because you believe they are not at some level of fandom, that believe that you, are is counter to the Timbers Army. If people are entitled to their opinion, they should be able to have that opinion without being insulted. Disagreeing and discussing is fine.

some folks are very much fans of the Timbers but are also new to soccer and still learning the game...

I am as much a Timbers fan as you are! And, yes, thank you for allowing me to be entitled to my own opinion. Very generous of you! Muchas Gracias!

If so, real disappointing. I thought GW left the building. Color me highly unimpressed.

the guy has played for the nz national team. why are you so negative on him? oh, i forgot...you're just negative, period.

Expand full comment

elaborate? wouldn't we want a center back?

Expand full comment

Maybe he's a hidden gem but I think this defense needs a guy playing in a higher profile league. Someone that is a bit more of a known quantity. We needbetter cbs, no doubt, but not from a backwater league. Just seems like a cheap bet. But de does qualify for the u22 category, I guess.

Guess we'e going to find out if we can win without Evander. Ayala is going to shoulder a heavy load especially since he's cruicial to build up play. Just hope the heat doesn't get to the guys.
