That was a gigantic pile of silly. I was kicking myself for not having gone to the last one, and I am so glad I went to this one.
I think my favorite part of the whole thing was Moreno playing most of the second half with one arm inside his shirt, after being called for a handball and not wanting to be called for another one. I'm bummed Jack J didn't get a goal, but my god the second half was just non-stop comedy gold, from each team just sorta...sneaking one or two extra players on at first, to pretty much every Thorns goalkeeper playing the outfield, to Vytas, Ridgewell, Gale, and Neville all...well, to call it "playing" is charitable (although Vytas did look up for it!), to players playing while wearing Gale's jacket and vest...the whole thing was just delightful.
I finally got my photos posted (57 of them!) and tried to capture the atmosphere of the match as much as I could. What an amazing night and the fact that the players were enjoying it so much was a joy to watch.
I normally put a copyright on my Timbers/Thorns photos but in the spirit of the charity match, these are all copyright-free and can be used by anyone. I also encourage everyone to donate via the link that has been shared here and is also on my photo page, and remember to mention your employer at the bottom if they match donations.
So many pictures where I'm like wtf is happening here lmao. I've seen pictures randomly retweeted by folks not from here and they are seriously confused..."Um how are there two keepers, what game is this?!" and the like lol. Thanks for sharing these! Everyone just looks so joyful and it's lovely to see.
At the end there were at least three keepers playing in the field, and at one point the three of them were rugby-ing the ball up the pitch, half holding the ball and half kicking the ball. It was glorious.
I love these games for all the reasons you all mentioned but most of all for the players’ enjoyment of them. It looks to be just fun to be able to play for the pure joy of it that I feel happy to be there with them.
Watching Evander run around with a big ol' goofy grin on his face the whole night was a delight. It was also great to see Jonathan - at first, he was taking this "game" super seriously (he REALLY REALLY wanted to score!), but over time, he really lightened up and got into the spirit of it, and was having as much fun as anyone with it.

Yeah, bro is a total soccer pyscho (in the best way possible that you want in a forward). I think in the first 15 minutes or so he would've gone cleats up into Valeri to score a goal if they had been on opposite teams, lol...

"Gigantic Pile of Silly" that wins the internet!
A "gigantic pile of silly" is an excellent way to describe this match. It was do fun
Man, what a good time last night! Love this event!

Yes! I was there with my partner and thought that was hilarious. The GK's really let loose lol.
And the non-keepers in keeper jerseys! Madness!

Same, the brief reprieve from pressure and expectation for them makes it truly special.
Let’s have another Ana Dias hat trick in Utah tomorrow!
For real, I said that in my comment in the other thread too lol! She had some nice goals.
I must admit that seeing how well the women played makes me even more certain that at least some of them could play on men's teams.
Didn't get to watch the game. It sure sounds like it was a lot of fun!

It was loads of fun for sure! I think the best part is both teams get to just enjoy the game and play for fun.
