Hi STF folks! I had a comment that kinda got buried in a previous comment thread about a week ago, but wanted to take the chance to repost my comment here in a brand new thread in hopes that someone "in charge" sees it (it got 10 or so likes so I know it's not just me...) There were also some other good suggestions from the community here, but I'll let other folks chime in as they'd like. Thanks in advance for considering!
My comment was more about the branding of STF as it currently exists:
I would like to re-up my ask for the branding of this site to be more inclusive of the Thorns. You wouldn't know it were also Thorns-based if you were a casual based on the branding, colors, and logos used. Same for the STF Twitter. It would be nice if we could diversify our audience here, and that starts with acknowledging it's also a space for Thorns fans as well. Personally, I'm only here for the Thorns, and I pay money to access only Thorns content. I don't want to be a complainer because I love that y'all are dedicating your time here to STF, but it would be lovely if you could redo the colorways/icons of STF to be more inclusive of the Thorns on all accounts, please and thank you!!
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We had an idea awhile back and are now revisiting. One of our team members is going to try to work on it and get it done.
None of us have the best graphic design skills, so any and all help would be more than appreciated.
If we can get it done before the Thorns season opener, that would be *chef's kiss

So here's a challenge: I think STF can do even better at this stuff than Sounder at Heart does with its visual presentation of covering two teams - one MLS, one NWSL.
Let's make it happen, because after... FUCK SEATTLE!
As someone who is primarily here for the Timbers, but who sees how much more timely Thorns content is, and how much more comment traffic Thorns articles draw for the most part (which is awesome for the Thorns and I love to see it, I'm not complaining at all!), I wholeheartedly agree with this idea.
There has to be some way to brand this site in colors/iconography that doesn't specifically evoke the Timbers, when the Thorns are kind of the engine that drives the STF car at this point. The STF name is inclusive enough in my opinion (although that might be changeable too), but a refreshed logo/color scheme might be a good idea.
I def don't think the name needs changing...I love Stumptown Footy! Just would be great if logos/colorways were more inclusive of 1 of the 2 teams that drives a majority of the interaction content here (I wasn't gonna go there, but thanks for sayin' so.)
It radiates throughout the site, honestly. I mean, there was a pretty major Timbers story that dropped yesterday, and...there's been complete and utter silence from STF about it (and side note as a paid member, site managers - I'm not thrilled about that). New Thorns kits dropped the other day, and a story came out about it same day, and there were 250+ comments about it, within that same day.
And again - I'm not complaining about that! It's wonderful. I love that the Thorns community that has built and grown here is so engaged and involved, and I learn a lot about the Thorns here. It speaks well of what Portland as a city and a sports community is and is capable of.
But we're looooong past the point where this site, which did originally start as a Timbers site, is that in a majority any more, and it's time the branding of the site reflects that.
Some Mt. Hood, some Portland Oregon sign, some Cascadia imagery, a Portlandia sculpture background, the St John's bridge...there's a ton that a good graphic artist (who is most definitely not me!) could do to make this site more Portland- or Oregon-centric and less strictly green-and-gold, and I would love to see it happen.
I thought they were Calling Asprilla offside since he was possibly obstructing the view of the goalie after the shot was taken. I don't think he was, but he was in an offside position at the time of the kick, and possibly the reason the flag was raised. If so , it was not as egregious an offside call as the pass to Antony.
i enjoyed the recap of the timbers' game, but why do you give air time to a person who was "sitting at home watching a movie" during the timbers' first goal?!
Hope everyone kept their DeBella Opening Day swag! Instant collectors item! I’m hearing that Peregrine is offering to buy back (refund? Markdown?) the DeBella kits!
I swear, this club has some sort of hoodoo on it. Or maybe Merritt is just that big a putz…
