Christine Sinclair re-signs with Thorns for one more year
The GOAT is staying in Portland for (presumably) one last season
The Portland Thorns announced today that Christine Sinclair has re-signed with the club for the 2024 season. After retiring from international soccer last year, this very well may be the last season of soccer for her.
“I’m thrilled to be back at Portland for another year and be a part of this next era of women’s soccer in the Rose City,” Sinclair said.
Sinclair has been one of the best players for Portland for over 11 seasons. She has scored 62 goals in 176 appearances in 11 seasons, including the team’s first-ever goal in Portland’s debut match in 2013.
“Sinc has been with this club from the beginning, she is the foundation with which Portland Thorns is built on, and as much as she is a part of the DNA of the Thorns, the Thorns are part of her DNA,” General Manager Karina LeBlanc said. “She has been committed to building this league and this club, and we are thrilled to be able to have her back for another year as we begin this next era in Thorns history.”
Sinclair is one of the most decorated players on and off the field for both club and country. She still holds the record for most international goals scored, men or women. She was a key figure in the fight for the Canadian WNT to earn equal pay as well. She is the only player to be a part of every title Portland has ever won.
“She is a key piece of the identity of the Thorns and what it means to represent Portland, Soccer City, USA,” Thorns Head Coach Mike Norris said.
And now, she will have the chance to cap off her illustrious career with one last run at a championship with the Thorns.

In terms of roster construction relative to age of players, the Fleming for Rocky move makes a ton of sense. I'm guessing Rocky has 1-2 years of high level play left on those wheels. Doesn't mean she won't stick around longer, but this is a "selling high" situation. Having said that, Rocky is an amazing person and has given everything to this club. Putting aside THE GOAL in 2022, her absolute domination of the Reign midfield at the end of last season will be my defining memory of her on the pitch. Everything great about her game came out that night. Plus, she put FIshlock on her ass, which makes her my hero.
Fleming is a get, but I sure hope they have a plan to get Liv a ton of minutes. Since Hina is a winger in Norris' mind, I would like a good long run starting at the 10 for her. I think she has all the tools to play it at a high level.
