The highest level available in Canada. Why did Canada need to have a team when plenty of Caribbean and Central American countries didn't field a team is up for debate but they do participate in a league and did win it, even if it mostly a league for kids and college age players. CONCACAF felt it was important to include Canada and they did beat the one entrant from El Salvador in a one game playoff game to reach the group stage.
Unrelated, good for Liga Mexicana Femenil to see both groups won by Tigres and América.
Because League 1 is the highest level of play in Canada until the NSL starts next year. They are an official team and compete in League 1 BC every year, they are also an academy team to develop some players for the senior national team (Jordyn Huitema and Julia Grosso played for them). The Whitecaps (Girls Elite Academy) won League 1BC and the inter-provincial playoffs, which is how they qualified for the tournament.
No way I'd have been able to resist telling them "You're IN America, kid. North America, to be precise. It's not our fault people think of the US as 'America' and Canada as 'America's Hat.'"
Haven't seen complaining about Canadians per se, only about overrated Canadians getting signed to our team. I don't think anyone anywhere is against Canadians!
Obviously nothing particularly big to take away given the opposition, but I have noticed that Linnehan loves this drag/cut back move going away from her goal: Tries it 2-3 times a game and it usually works. Really good sense of where the trailing defenders are and whether they’re overplaying to her outside and leaving space.
I also kinda like how Hirst plays. Nothing special at all talent wise, but you can tell she’s watched a whole lot of Busquets/Amendine tape just the way she plays upright with her head up all the time. Loves a quick scan over the shoulder lol
Her pass completion in college was some of the best in her position, so I like that. She seems to have some potential. She should've gotten a full 90 tonight...give Sam the night off!
No it was decisive but they were also literal children haha. And the first half was pretty disjointed and kinda embarrassing. So many long balls and over the top stuff. Vancouver looked better structured/coached at that point, tbh. Sheva and Spaanstra are turnover machines, so I guess I understand trying to bypass that midfield. It got better when Moultrie came on, and then even more so after each of our better subs entered.
I didn't watch much of that one, but that's good! Not sure what it says though bc SD is also a dumpster fire lol. I think SD had a billion shots and seemed to have the same issue they do in the league. We still look how we look this season, regardless of this scoreline (or other teams' scorelines) against a bunch of kids. They were a good team, and well-coached, it seems. Had some nice passing. Regardless, it was fun to see 6 goals scored! The second half was much better also....but I still kinda wish he would've let all the first half players play full games since this is a 3 game week.
Yeah the first half wasn't that good despite being ahead. Esp the first 30 mins. Pretty sad their team was passing around better than our rotated team. We just don't seem very cohesive.
This game doesn't tell us anything, but I wasn't expecting it to. We still look relatively the same as we have all year. The setup is just bad, and individual players aren't really set up to succeed. Moultrie should never be used wide or a player running onto balls lol. Sheva just isn't good. Hubly was Hubly...although she did have a couple nice long balls. But she also biffed some kicks and got smoked by a teenager lol. Our system is just not very good, often changes game to game, and our depth is just not good enough to overcome those things and still look good (as a team or individually.) D'Aquila had a good game! But again....against 16-18 yo's.
Regardless, this game was just a fun little ditty to watch and not take too seriously! The Izzy to Reyes goal at the end was a nice cherry on top after Sinc's goal. (But I think we do have a lot of roster overhaul that needs to happen.)
I don’t know. Looked pretty decisive to me. Maybe more so in the 2nd half, but Vancouver never looked scary. Gave up some softies, too. Although I think the Spaanstra goal was offsides…
We had to win by at least 3 to guarantee advancing.
San Diego draw/win they top group with 10/12 points Thorns second on 9 points and América 3rd on 6/7 points.
América win then all three teams are on 9 points. First tiebreaker is Goal Difference from all group stage games. América would top group with a GD of 11 or more. Thorns will be in second with a GD of 8. San Diego will crash out as third with a GD of 4 or less.
I looked at the standings. We're behind SD because they're undefeated. We're ahead of CA but they still have a game in hand, and they're ahead of us on GD.
Ana Dias scoring a brace against Gotham was not a tweet I expected to read today. Can we have her back?
Everyone keeps saying “they were actual children” and I looked it up—are they not really an official team? Just an academy?
And why are we playing an academy in what’s supposed to be a prelude to a club World Cup?

Thank you, Futurama, for your love of balls...

Did they hire a Paulson to head their marketing department?
Apparently a 12 year old told the away supporters/Riveters to "go back to america”, which is hilarious.
No way I'd have been able to resist telling them "You're IN America, kid. North America, to be precise. It's not our fault people think of the US as 'America' and Canada as 'America's Hat.'"
'Coz I'm like that...
Nice to see that xenophobia and intolerance are not confined to adults, or to our side of the border.
Y'all complain about Canadians every game day, and now your concerned about xenophobia?
Haven't seen complaining about Canadians per se, only about overrated Canadians getting signed to our team. I don't think anyone anywhere is against Canadians!
She probably saw that toomanyballsdotcom got taken down :(
wow, that feels like a kick in the....
Oh nooooo.

Or maybe this one. Be the balls you wish to see in the world: https://nwslboston.com/products/bos-nation-fc-be-the-many-unisex-midweight-hoodie
This is Boston.
Shouldn't that read "Be the Manny" as in "Manny Being Manny"?

Am I crazy or was that the least decisive a 6-0 victory could possibly be?

Butthead: She said "long balls"
Beavis: Yeah! Yeah! Balls! Boi-oi-oi-oi-oing!
(Boston, you did this to yourselves)
I will start the THERE ARE TOO MANY LONG BALLS IN THIS TOWN campaign if Rob Gale remains coach lol.
#StumpTown BallsOut
(SD only won 2-0 with a better starting 11, just sayin)

It just felt sloppy to me, and there were several times when I thought they for sure were gonna score.
Hopefully a nice confidence for them going into the remainder of the season and playoffs.

So, Sinc and D'Aquila have futures if they want to play against non-NWSL clubs.
Reyes caps off the game with a 6th. Not enough to win our group but enough to move on to the semifinals in May as the second place team.
Yay, Sinc!
What has to happen for us to advance in this monstrosity?
We need either CA or Wave to lose, right?
We had to win by at least 3 to guarantee advancing.

Announcer is saying we are through - he very well could be wrong

Thorns X is saying through.

That's good!
We will play UNAL Tigres unless they lose to Gotham tomorrow.
Hopefully "we" will be a different team by May.
That will be fun. Hermoso and Kgatlana.
I found our doppelganger:
https://www.reddit.com/r/NWSL/comments/1g4o2uw/match_thread_vancouver_whitecaps_vs_portland/
God, a bunch of these Vancouver players weren't yet born when Sinc was in college.
Did some big 'rithmetic to determine @41 Sinc would be their grandmother, provided she grew up in West Virginia. Whitecaps convo:
"Your mom."
"Your granny!"
Wow, I think we started Orlando's B/C lineup tonight.
US team v Canadian team. So, who else would you have but a fully Mexican referee crew?
This is absurd. They are literally playing children.
But, kinda cool too because the kiddos are playing the GOAT at home in BC Place. That's something they'll always remember.
Well...there are children and there are children. Tokyo Verdy Menina (Beleza's U17 academy) would very probably hand us our heads on a platter.
But yeah, those kids have gotta be SO stoked to be on the pitch vs Sincy.
Get that GD up!
