Antony, Phil Neville named to MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 1 & 2
Eryk Williamson also named to the bench
Coming off of resounding season-opening 4-1 win over the Colorado Rapids, the Portland Timbers were well represented on the MLS Team of the Matchday for the league’s first weekend.
Antony, who tallied his first career brace and forced an own goal, was named to his first league team of the week. In ten regular season appearances, the 22-year-old has scored three goals for Portland.
Additionally, Phil Neville was named as Coach of the Matchday. Neville was coaching his first ever game as Timbers head coach, and with Saturday night’s victory he became the first coach in club history to win their first ever match with the team.
Not to be left out, Eryk Williamson was named to the Team of the Matchday bench for his performance in his return to the field after suffering a torn ACL last year. His ninth minute goal set the tone early, and sparked a dominant display from the Timbers in the first half. Williamson also recorded an assist, marking Saturday his third multi-goal involvement performance of his career.

The Timbers are next in action when they face D.C. United at home on March 2, with kickoff set for 7:39pm at Providence Park.
The MLS Team Of The Matchday little crystal doorstop he'll probably get will fit right in next to his Champions League medal and six Premier League medals on his trophy shelf, and it will be something he looks back on with the most fondness, I'm sure.
In all seriousness, though, he couldn't have asked for a better start here and this is a nice bit of recognition of the start of what's hopefully a whole new chapter of Timbers MLS soccer.
