A new Venezuelan is in to town — and this time it isn’t Giovanni Savarese. The Portland Timbers have signed 20-year-old Venezuelan forward Kevin Kelsy. PTFC recently shelled out almost $6 million for Kelsy from Ukrainian side, Shakhtar Donetsk.
Today I want to take a look at the young Venezuelan, and why he would be a great fit as a depth piece in the Rose City. Kelsy is a true number 9, or center forward. He also has some experience playing as a right winger. The Timbers have cemented their trust in Felipe Mora as their starting center forward, but Kelsy could provide good coverage up top when Mora is away with Chile’s national team, or in potential injury scenarios.
