Rob Gale is Bringin' the Kenergy
The Portland Thorns interim head coach is 5-0-0 since taking over. He has brought unmatched joy, fun, and Kenergy to the team. However, his journey is also one that inspires all of us.
On Saturday the Portland Thorns won their Cascadia Clash and rivalry game against the Seattle Reign 4-0 to win five straight games for the first time in club history.
At the postgame presser, Rob Gale, opened up and shared a emotional anniversary with us.
“Today (Saturday) was an anniversary for me — a year ago. I showed this picture with the players, but this was me a year ago (pulls out a paper with photos of his surgeries). I just had my second surgery — been diagnosed with cancer. I’ve been with the club 4-5 weeks. Three surgeries in 20 days. The second was May 11th of last year.”
He was joined by Mike Smith at the presser, who is the director of scouting and recruiting & youth sporting director for the Portland Thorns.
“I owe this guy and his family everything,” Gale said of Smith.
