PTFC Stock Report #8 - Timbers
The Timbers top their group, but exit the Leagues Cup at the round of 32 stage.
After an exciting comeback win against Club Leon and demolition of the Colorado Rapids saw the Portland Timbers finish atop West Group F, a 3-1 loss at the hands of St. Louis City SC saw the Timbers crash out of the Leagues Cup in the first knockout round.
Stock up
Claudio Bravo: Bravo was one of the Timbers best performers in the Leagues Cup, and capped his tournament off with a thunderbolt from outside the box against St. Louis. According to FotMob, he averaged an 8.0 rating in the two starts he made in the 2024 Leagues Cup, boasting some pretty impressive stats in 201 minutes played:
82.7 percent successful pass accuracy
3 chances created
4.48 tackles won per 90’
8.06 duels won per 90’
2.24 interceptions per 90’
7.16 recoveries per 90’
David Ayala: Ayala’s only Leagues Cup start came in the 4-0 win against the Rapids, earning an 8.5 rating, but the steely midfielder made an impact in each of the Timbers’ three matches. Ayala scored his first professional goal (a header funnily enough) against Colorado, but his range of passing and defensive actions displayed on a weekly basis are becoming more and more undeniable. In 175 minutes of Leagues Cup action, he had:
90 percent passing accuracy
83.3 percent long-ball accuracy
2.57 successful tackles per 90’
8.74 duels won per 90’
100 percent of aerial duels won (4/4)
2.57 interceptions per 90’
Mason Toye: The Timbers’ newest signing arrived right before the start of Leagues Cup play and featured off the bench in all three matches, adding more proven MLS quality to an already potent Portland attack.
