Monday Morning Regista: Loving your people
Another dramatic Thorns draw and a heartwarming Timbers win
There are no quarterbacks in soccer — but there are deep-lying playmakers, better known as “registas”. So rather than doing some “MMQB” discussion, let’s look back in hindsight and analyze some key moments & decisions from the PTFC weekend in “Monday Morning Regista”.
This week: a personnel decision on the field for the Thorns, and a big decision off the field for the Timbers
Thorns: Ice cold rookie
We knew that this year was very likely going to be the year of the “young, hungry, and unproven” Portland Thorns. With veterans gone and proven stars unavailable, a bevy of young players, and in particular rookies, were going to provide the bulk of the excitement in 2025.
Before the season, the top rookie might have been seen as Pietra Tordin — the USYNT budding star. As the season started, it then looked to be Caiya Hanks — the electric attacker who grabbed headlines with her fearless play.
But now, the most impactful rookie is decidedly Jayden Perry — the centerback who also is a penalty kick wizard and also is joint top-scorer for the Thorns through nine games.
